Hauge..

Nicaragua had accused Germany of breaching the UN genocide convention by sending military hardware to Israel and ceasing funding of the UN's aid agency.

The allegations build on a separate case taken by South Africa in January, where judges in the Hague ordered Israel to take "every possible measure" to avoid genocidal acts.

More than 33,000 have been killed in Israel's offensive in Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry there says, the majority of them civilians. Gaza is on the brink of famine, with Oxfam reporting that 300,000 people trapped in the north have lived since January on an average of 245 calories a day.

Nicaragua says Germany's arms sales to Israel, which totalled $326.5m last year - a tenfold increase on 2022 - make it complicit in Israel's alleged war crimes. The Central American country had brought the case to the Hague to ask judges to issue emergency measures to stop Berlin from providing Israel with weapons and other assistance.

Safe passage..

Houthis have launched a lot of deadly threats into the Red Sea, many of which have been shot down by US and allied warships operating in the region's dangerous waters.
One recent interception, however, was credited to a French helicopter crew, which blasted a Houthi attack drone out of the sky in air-to-air combat. Helicopter-versus-drone fights aren't the norm in this conflict.
Victories like these can be more difficult to achieve, given that they require hitting a moving target from another moving target in the air, but they aren't all that surprising.

Warren..

Sen. Elizabeth Warren believes international officials could find that Israel’s assault on Gaza legally constitutes a genocide, she said during an event at a local mosque last week.

If you want to do it as an application of law, I believe that they’ll find that it is genocide, and they have ample evidence to do so,” Warren (D-Mass.) said Friday while taking audience questions during an event at the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, Massachusetts.

A video of Warren’s comments posted on X by a GBH News reporter began circulating Monday. Warren’s office confirmed the senator's remarks to POLITICO.

Israel did what it did. How the world see Israel today ? And what the world considers the legality of the action of Israel against the civilian Palestinians?

*Israel agrees that its army should be held to account, and the IDF lost no time in launching an inquiry, with two soldiers already sacked. “ the strike was not carried out with the intention of harming the WCK and workers,”
*German Chancellor Olaf Scholz questioned the "terribly high costs" of Israel's offensive on Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Gaza on Sunday, saying the world could not simply stand by and watch as Palestinians risk starvation in the enclave.

*Scholz said he had shared his concerns about the high number of civilian casualties and insufficient aid reaching Gaza where aid agencies say famine is looming.
*After more than a month of the Israeli government's unlawful blockade of Gaza, which has included catastrophic cuts to water, fuel, and electricity, as well as very limited deliveries of food, water, and medical supplies, the lack of clean water is resulting in “grave concerns” by public health experts of an imminent.  Just a thought.

Detriment..

New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced support on Tuesday for changes to sanctuary city laws that currently protect migrants in New York.

Calling the policies a "detriment to public safety," Adams spoke during a news conference following similar statements he made on Monday, saying he believes New York City agencies should be free to cooperate more readily with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport immigrants who have been accused of committing crimes.

“We should be communicating with ICE, and if ICE makes the determination of deporting, then they should,” Adams, a former New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, said at the news conference, according to AP.

Democrats who plan to cast blank ballots instead of voting for Joe Biden say it doesn’t mean they want Donald Trump to win.

“We think the main enemy of Democrats this year is the lack of enthusiasm,” said Ana María Archila, co-director of the New York Working Families Party, in an interview. “And in order to address that, we need to remind people that their votes really matter.”

The Leave It Blank movement New York’s iteration of the Uncommitted movement in Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere protesting Biden over the Israel-Hamas war will be put to the test in Tuesday’s primary in the state.

The World Central Kitchen has described the seven aid workers who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza as the “very best of humanity”.

Three British nationals, an Australian, a Polish national, an American-Canadian dual citizen and a Palestinian were killed when their convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse on Monday.

Very best of humanity’: the seven aid workers killed in Israeli airstrike

President Joe Biden sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, days after an Israeli airstrike killed seven humanitarian aid workers from Chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen. Biden remarked that he was “outraged and heartbroken,” a feeling shared by the hundreds of nonprofit groups and human rights organizations.

Humanitarian organizations around the world are now quietly hoping that Biden’s outrage might lead to a real moment of reckoning about the terrible humanitarian cost of Israel’s war.

More than 30,000 Palestinians have died since the beginning of the war, 70 percent of them women and children. Gaza is now the deadliest conflict of the 21st Century, with a truly international death toll.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) military strikes have claimed the lives of foreign journalists, photographers, medical staff, religious figures, academics, humanitarian aid workers, Israeli troops and even the Israeli hostages they intended to save. The Committee to Protect Journalists counts nearly 100 reporters and media workers among the dead.

Rabbi..

Rabbi Rachel Timone, senior rabbi of Congregation Beth Elohim, said in an interview with POLITICO. “There's been a real fear in the American Jewish community of criticizing Israel. … Senator Schumer  did something so great in breaking that silence.”

Timone leads a “reform, pluralistic community,” she said representing a liberal Jewish perspective she feels is often drowned out in American conversations about Israel.
I think that Schumer said out loud what the overwhelming majority of American Jews are saying to each other, which is that Bibi Netanyahu is making the world less safe for Jews and making Israel less safe for Israelis.
Netanyahu himself has said that he completely opposes a two-state solution. And so he is an obstacle to peace. So yes, I think that what Senator Schumer said was brave and right.  Just a thought.

Amendment..

Trump’s attorney Steve Sadow urged Judge Scott McAfee to consider that Willis’s indictment, in which she alleged Trump violated Georgia’s racketeering law by illegally conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, was “ripe” for a First Amendment challenge.

The judge held a hearing Thursday to examine former President Donald Trump ’s argument that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis ’s case against him in Georgia should be dismissed because Trump’s actions cited in her indictment were protected by the First Amendment.

Judge Scott McAfee heard arguments from both Trump’s attorney and prosecutors about the matter.

An on-duty NYPD officer was shot and killed while conducting a vehicle stop in Queens on Monday.

The wounded officer, Jonathan Diller, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, and later died.

Wind Fall..

Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group has finalized its deal to go public, creating a massive windfall for former President Donald Trump that doubles his net worth.

Bloomberg estimated Trump's net worth spiked by $4 billion on Monday alone, giving him a fortune of $6.5 billion. The closing of the merger between Trump Media and Digital World Acquisition Corp. amounts to a multi-billion dollar windfall for Trump, who is the chairman and dominant shareholder of the new company.

The action taken by AG Latitia James, against Trump, may have a terrible effect on the tax payer money.

The action turned Trump into a special case where no-one wants to get involved. Insurance companies/Banks avoided providing Trump a letter of credit when they may become the target of the attorney general, or worse, having to try to collect from Trump’s illiquid properties.  If she moved to confiscate his properties.
The properties have mortgages. A transfer of title of the properties would probably trigger the due on sale clause, i.e., the mortgage would have to be paid off. That means the NY taxpayers would have to pay up!
Worse, if NY state didn’t pay up, it would likely create a nationwide banking or insurance company crisis.  The lenders on the properties may have made loans to dozens of other banks or insurance companies, which means any losses incurred may spread throughout the banking or insurance industry in the U.S.
So, what is this all this about?   Just a thoght.

Obstacle..

Senator Schumer, the New York Democrat and highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the U.S.  called Netanyahu a "major obstacle to peace" and said he "lost his way by allowing his political survival to take the precedence over the best interests of Israel."

Schumer, also called on its government to hold a new election, saying many Israelis have lost confidence in their government and it was "the only way to allow for a healthy and open decision making process about the future of Israel.

Mr. Biden has supported Israel's right to defend itself in response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attack by Hamas, but has become more critical of Netanyahu's government amid a humanitarian crisis and increasing civilian death toll in Gaza. He is also facing pressure from some Democrats to stop arming Israel over its conduct during the war against Hamas.

Just a thought.

Speaking after talks with Israeli Prime Minister in Jerusalem, Scholz said he had shared his concerns about the high number of civilian casualties and insufficient aid reaching Gaza where aid agencies say famine is looming.
Scholz added that he had spoken with Netanyahu about the need for conditions for the distribution of aid to be "urgently and massively improved". "We cannot stand by and watch Palestinians risk starvation," he said. "That's not us. That is not what we stand for."

"Israel is a democracy... Israel is an ally of USA-"
The head of the U.N. Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) said on Sunday Israel had informed the U.N. that it will no longer approve UNRWA food convoys to the north of Gaza. "This is outrageous and makes it intentional to obstruct lifesaving assistance during a man-made famine.
