Hauge..
Nicaragua had accused Germany of breaching the UN genocide convention by sending military hardware to Israel and ceasing funding of the UN's aid agency.
The allegations build on a separate case taken by South Africa in January, where judges in the Hague ordered Israel to take "every possible measure" to avoid genocidal acts.
More than 33,000 have been killed in Israel's offensive in Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry there says, the majority of them civilians. Gaza is on the brink of famine, with Oxfam reporting that 300,000 people trapped in the north have lived since January on an average of 245 calories a day.
Nicaragua says Germany's arms sales to Israel, which totalled $326.5m last year - a tenfold increase on 2022 - make it complicit in Israel's alleged war crimes. The Central American country had brought the case to the Hague to ask judges to issue emergency measures to stop Berlin from providing Israel with weapons and other assistance.

If you want to do it as an application of law, I believe that they’ll find that it is genocide, and they have ample evidence to do so,” Warren (D-Mass.) said Friday while taking audience questions during an event at the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, Massachusetts.

Detriment..
New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced support on Tuesday for changes to sanctuary city laws that currently protect migrants in New York.
Calling the policies a "detriment to public safety," Adams spoke during a news conference following similar statements he made on Monday, saying he believes New York City agencies should be free to cooperate more readily with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport immigrants who have been accused of committing crimes.
“We should be communicating with ICE, and if ICE makes the determination of deporting, then they should,” Adams, a former New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, said at the news conference, according to AP.

Democrats who plan to cast blank ballots instead of voting for Joe Biden say it doesn’t mean they want Donald Trump to win.
“We think the main enemy of Democrats this year is the lack of enthusiasm,” said Ana MarÃa Archila, co-director of the New York Working Families Party, in an interview. “And in order to address that, we need to remind people that their votes really matter.”
The Leave It Blank movement New York’s iteration of the Uncommitted movement in Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere protesting Biden over the Israel-Hamas war will be put to the test in Tuesday’s primary in the state.

The World Central Kitchen has described the seven aid workers who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza as the “very best of humanity”.
Three British nationals, an Australian, a Polish national, an American-Canadian dual citizen and a Palestinian were killed when their convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse on Monday.
Dead..
President Joe Biden sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, days after an Israeli airstrike killed seven humanitarian aid workers from Chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen. Biden remarked that he was “outraged and heartbroken,” a feeling shared by the hundreds of nonprofit groups and human rights organizations.
Humanitarian organizations around the world are now quietly hoping that Biden’s outrage might lead to a real moment of reckoning about the terrible humanitarian cost of Israel’s war.
More than 30,000 Palestinians have died since the beginning of the war, 70 percent of them women and children. Gaza is now the deadliest conflict of the 21st Century, with a truly international death toll.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) military strikes have claimed the lives of foreign journalists, photographers, medical staff, religious figures, academics, humanitarian aid workers, Israeli troops and even the Israeli hostages they intended to save. The Committee to Protect Journalists counts nearly 100 reporters and media workers among the dead.

Rabbi..
Rabbi Rachel Timone, senior rabbi of Congregation Beth Elohim, said in an interview with POLITICO. “There's been a real fear in the American Jewish community of criticizing Israel. … Senator Schumer did something so great in breaking that silence.”
I think that Schumer said out loud what the overwhelming majority of American Jews are saying to each other, which is that Bibi Netanyahu is making the world less safe for Jews and making Israel less safe for Israelis.
Netanyahu himself has said that he completely opposes a two-state solution. And so he is an obstacle to peace. So yes, I think that what Senator Schumer said was brave and right. Just a thought.

Amendment..
Trump’s attorney Steve Sadow urged Judge Scott McAfee to consider that Willis’s indictment, in which she alleged Trump violated Georgia’s racketeering law by illegally conspiring to overturn the 2020 election, was “ripe” for a First Amendment challenge.
The judge held a hearing Thursday to examine former President Donald Trump ’s argument that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis ’s case against him in Georgia should be dismissed because Trump’s actions cited in her indictment were protected by the First Amendment.
Judge Scott McAfee heard arguments from both Trump’s attorney and prosecutors about the matter.

Obstacle..
Senator Schumer, the New York Democrat and highest-ranking Jewish elected official in the U.S. called Netanyahu a "major obstacle to peace" and said he "lost his way by allowing his political survival to take the precedence over the best interests of Israel."
Schumer, also called on its government to hold a new election, saying many Israelis have lost confidence in their government and it was "the only way to allow for a healthy and open decision making process about the future of Israel.
Mr. Biden has supported Israel's right to defend itself in response to the Oct. 7 terrorist attack by Hamas, but has become more critical of Netanyahu's government amid a humanitarian crisis and increasing civilian death toll in Gaza. He is also facing pressure from some Democrats to stop arming Israel over its conduct during the war against Hamas.
Just a thought.
