A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot 28-year-old Oscar Belgal in the neck during a targeted enforcement operation in the Marble Hill neighborhood of New York City.
Plainclothes ICE agents attempted to pull over and block Belgal's vehicle. Federal officials claim Belgal weaponized his car and tried to drive toward or ram agents, while city officials and defense attorneys dispute the account. An agent fired seven rounds into the car, hitting Belgal below his left ear.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that Belgal is a Dominican national with prior criminal history, and that officers discharged their weapons during a lawful enforcement attempt.
