Anthony D'Alessandro, stole nearly 200,000 oxycodone pills from the facility, said Bridget Brennan, New York City's special narcotics prosecutor. The 249-count indictment was issued. The pills were worth about $5.6 million on the street.
The sticky-fingered pharmacist pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, officials said.
He served as director of pharmacy services at Beth Israel on First Ave. and 16th St. for 14 years, authorities said. He was responsible for overseeing all of the medication stocked and dispensed at the facility.
The new Mount Sinai Health System received an anonymous letter that explained the large-scale theft and provided related documentation.
D'Alessandro made false entries into the hospital's electronic narcotics inventory system to cover up his crimes, according to officials.
