A new study Led by researcher Katarzyna Pisanski, analyzed over 500 participants from Canada, Cuba, Norway, and the United States.

Male participants indicated a preference for women approximately 2.5 centimeters shorter than the national average when imagining a brief romance. In contrast, female participants maintained a steady ideal height for men, around 180 centimeters, reinforcing the “taller man” norm.

To measure preferences, volunteers evaluated minimalist silhouettes with annotated heights, choosing ideal partners for both short-term and long-term scenarios. 

This approach allowed researchers to identify patterns in attraction that challenge common assumptions, suggesting that physical traits like height play a subtle but significant role in romantic decision-making.

Experts in evolutionary psychology explain that height preferences may be linked to reproductive success and perceived health. 

Taller stature has historically been associated with social status and physical strength. The study also confirmed assortative mating, meaning taller individuals often seek partners of similar height, adjusting expectations based on their own physical traits.
