U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) stated that "socialism" should be an unacceptable label within the Democratic Party, arguing instead that Democrats should embrace capitalism.
Fetterman criticized the left flank of the Democratic Party and rejected the platform of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), calling their movement "extremist" and an "orgy of socialism". He expressed concern that embracing socialist policies and anti-Israel stances within parts of the progressive wing creates a severe political liability for competitive races in upcoming midterm elections.
Fetterman emphasized that it is the responsibility of party members to "police their own ranks" and call out views they find unacceptable.
