While there is no cure for dementia, up to 45% of the risks can be attributed to modifiable risk factors such as tobacco, alcohol use, social isolation, physical inactivity, air pollution and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including high blood pressure and diabetes.
"We know more today than ever before about what drives dementia risk, and these guidelines translate that knowledge into action.
WHO’s new guidelines reflect the latest evidence and innovations in dementia risk reduction providing proven interventions that can effectively lower dementia risk through early awareness and timely action.
They represent an important opportunity to reduce the burden of dementia in the coming decades through stronger integration of services for noncommunicable diseases, mental health and brain health.

After menopause, or in the midst of it, women’s biology changes, and many reflect on how they want this new chapter to look. This requires effort because change can be rough and difficult.
Men are often standing still or, in some cases, regressing. Men are not as good at keeping their social lives alive as women.
In the UK, 20 per cent of men report having no close friends, compared with 12 per cent of women. More than half (58 per cent) feel they have “no one to rely on in a crisis”.
These stats point to the importance of socializing. Most women plan their kids’ lives (playdates, activities, parties) and their partners’ lives, while many men are much focus on their business success ad advancement.
Just a thought.
