Fraud..
Last year, the U.S. government made at least $162 billion in improper payments, according to a nonpartisan government watchdog. Kristin Kociolek of the Government Accountability Office also told a House oversight subcommittee that the government was defrauded of $233 billion to $521 billion per year between 2018 and 2022.
Social welfare programs and pandemic emergency programs have proven especially prone to errors and abuses. Medicare , the health insurance program for senior citizens, racked up $54.3 billion in improper payments last year. Medicaid, the healthcare program for low-income people, improperly dispensed $31.1 billion.
The earned income tax credit , which gives an income tax cut, accounted for another $15.9 billion, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, cost $8.7 billion.
just a thought.

Cause..
“Household and business inflation expectations have reached very high levels, and they could rise further if the Russian invasion of Ukraine causes energy prices to spike or disrupts supply chains,” wrote Goldman Sachs in a note Monday warning of higher and more persistent inflation than previously forecast.
On that knowledge, the Biden administration Placed restrictions and sanctions on the Russian energy of oil and Natural gas, in addition of cancelling the Nord Stream 2, a new pipeline ready to transfer natural gas from Russia to Europe for reduced prices.
The price of a gallon of diesel hit $4 a gallon for the first time in nearly eight years over the weekend. Although few Americans drive diesel-powered cars, most large trucks use it. And just about all goods sold in the United States are moved by truck at some point.
The trucking industry itself has been facing challenges for years, mostly due to a shortage of drivers. The higher fuel costs will be passed on by trucking companies in the form of fuel surcharges. So all businesses will have to pay higher transportation costs. With already high inflation, they are likely to pass along those costs to consumers.
Billions..
Trump administration threatened on Tuesday to withhold federal funding from New York’s mass transit network if the Metropolitan Transportation Authority did not respond to a series of demands about efforts to prevent crime on the city’s subway and buses.
Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, said in a letter that the M.T.A. must provide a long list of details about crime in New York City’s transit system, including expenditures on programs to combat it, or face the prospect of losing an untold sum of federal funding.
And in 2023, for the first time in nearly two decades, felony assaults outnumbered robberies in the subway, raising concerns that the nature of violence underground was becoming more unpredictable.
Mr. Duffy reminded the authorities that their federal resources could and should be used for crime prevention. the letter referred to the use of federal funding to pay for infrastructure projects.
Comment:
I am not sure how the MTA runs. The administrator of the MTA thinks they can run the system their own way, and on the same time wants billions of dollars from everyone else. What kind of business is that? and is this how to serve the people of New York City?
Then and Now..
President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday agreed on steps toward a peace deal to end the war in Ukraine and struck a narrow ceasefire that is set to take effect at once.“We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post after his call with Putin, which lasted at least 90 minutes.
That agreement came “with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote.
On the other hand..... Few months earlier.
President Joe Biden, the Leader of the free world's decided to transfer U.S. cluster munitions to Ukraine which will exacerbate a humanitarian crisis and break with a widely followed international norm. The move encourages the proliferation of weapons that have been banned by over 120 countries because they endanger civilians both during strikes and for months, years, and even decades afterward.
Cluster munitions disperse dozens or hundreds of smaller submunitions, or bomblets, across a broad area, the size of a city block. Each of these submunitions shatters into metal fragments that can tear off limbs and inflict fatal wounds. They cause civilian casualties at the time of attack because they cannot discriminate between soldiers and civilians. In addition, many do not explode on impact, lingering like landmines and posing an ongoing threat to the local population.

Self..
An illegal immigrant who once served as an aide to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, has reportedly self-deported to Colombia, praising the “freedom of movement” in the South American nation after working in Congress despite being in the country illegally.
Diego de la Vega was born in Ecuador and immigrated to the United States as a 7-year-old in 2001 on a visitor’s visa that he overstayed, Migrant Insider reported.
The news raises thorny questions about his employment status for the Queens-based congresswoman.

“It’s bittersweet. I hadn’t left the country in 23 years — from age seven to age 30,” de la Vega told Migrant Insider. “Now, I can’t go back to the US. It feels like exile. It’s a very permanent move. But my wife and I are confident we made the right decision. And, after some time, it’s been a real pleasure to be here.
