SNAP..

 


While millions have access to food assistance programs like SNAP, the number of people on "food stamps" (SNAP) is closer to 42 million in recent years, not exactly 50 million. 

The figure of over 50 million includes people who rely on charitable food assistance in addition to SNAP benefitsThe number of SNAP participants fluctuates, but it remained high in recent years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • More than 50 million people turned to food banks and pantries for assistance in 2023, according to Feeding America.
  • This figure includes people who get SNAP, but also those who don't qualify for SNAP due to income, are navigating high food prices, or face budget constraints.
