Caveats..

A typical EV owner saves $6,000 to $10,000 over the life of most such vehicles compared with a gasoline-only model, according to a Consumer Reports study from 2020.
Since that study was published, many EVs have gotten cheaper and conventional vehicles more expensive.
When comparing similar cars on total cost during ownership, "battery electric vehicles tend to come out ahead of [internal combustion engine] vehicles, on average."
However, there are many caveats that could change that outcome for an individual buyer.
These include regional electricity and gasoline prices; the availability of home vs. public charging, the latter of which is typically more expensive; and the range of the electric vehicle.   Just a "Cost related" thought.

  1. We have an EV, Chevy Bolt 2017, and are able to charge it at home. Traveling upstate NY in the winter can create some range anxiety since the batteries do not charge to their fullness in the cold. But in the summer we get full charges & cruise upstate NY with battery power left.
