The Kansas Attorney General’s office has filed criminal charges against a well-liked, newly re-elected small-town mayor who is alleged to have voted despite not having U.S. citizenship.

Attorney GeneralKris Kobach said Jose “Joe” Ceballos, 54, is a Mexican citizen with legal permanent residency in the United States but is not a citizen. Ceballos was re-elected as mayor this week by residents of Coldwater, a community of 687 people in southwestern Kansas.

Ceballos is being charged with three counts apiece of election perjury and voting without being qualified, Kobach said Wednesday at a press conference. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 68 months’ imprisonment and $200,000 in fines.

Skip Herd, Coldwater city attorney, told Wichita's KWCH-TV that Ceballos, who he said holds a green card, drew "red flags" by applying for permanent citizenship.
The state's charges are based on Ceballos’ votes in the general elections of 2022 and 2023 as well as the 2024 primary election, but Kobach said Ceballos was a registered voter prior to those elections. 

 Coldwater City Council president Britt Lenertz issued a statement saying the mayor had convened council members for a special meeting on Wednesday to discuss the situation.    Just a thought.

After reading the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Oct. 28 report on President Joe Biden's cognitive decline and his inner circle's dishonest, deliberate cover-up, I'm furious.  

Chairman James Comer, R-Kentucky, said in a statement that the report, based on 14 depositions and transcribed interviews with key Biden aides, shows that some staff "colluded to mislead the public" and went to great lengths to "sustain the appearance of presidential authority as Biden’s capacity to function independently diminished."

The report found evidence that Biden experienced a mental and physical decline so significant that senior White House officials covered it up by restricting his access to the public or ensuring that any access to him was heavily controlled. 

Because of his decline, staff "facilitated executive actions without direct authorization from President Biden himself, including through misuse of the autopen and failures in documenting decision-making processes," the report's summary said.

Biden was suffering from declining health and that his administration was covering it up, raising ethical and practical questions about who was actually running the White House. This report confirms that and then some: Biden's inner circle knew he was in poor health, but instead of helping him or relieving him of his presidential duties, they sought to maintain power at any cost.

An Oregon Democratic politician is now an international fugitive from justice after fleeing the country with her young son when she was charged with bilking an elderly man out of $30,000, authorities said.

Democrat Melissa Fireside, an ex-Clackamas County commissioner, crossed the border into Mexico on a fake passport and booked a ticket for Austria after going on the run with her 9-year-old son, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield said Friday.

Fireside was charged in March with aggravated theft, forgery and other crimes for allegedly ripping off retired Safeway employee Arthur Petrone, her mom’s beau, by applying for a loan using his name.

However, the state justice department on Friday filed a motion to revoke Fireside’s bail after investigators determined that she wasn’t living at her Lexington, Oregon, home — a violation of the terms of her release, the attorney general said.
