Hawarewedo..

When the US imposed a severe embargo to cut off the supply of high-end chips to Huawei in 2020, many foresaw it being a counterproductive move by Washington. Yes, it might stifle the technological prowess of Huawei, but more than that, it would push the Chinese telecommunications giant to develop its chips more quickly.

Despite a slowdown, Huawei found a way to generate revenue outside its smartphone business over the years. It eventually proved to the world that obtaining US tech might be a ‘want’ for China, but certainly was not a ‘need’ for the superpower.

That is perhaps why experts expect the breakthrough in developing a new 5G processor in mainland China not only to prompt another round of investigation by Washington, but also to intensify the US-China tech war. It could also spark more debate in the US about the effectiveness of sanctions, and the way we use it.

A top US Treasury official is heading to Hong Kong as the White House continues its quest to ease tensions with Beijing and avoid a destabilizing crisis.

Joining a growing list of US officials visiting the region, Assistant US Treasury Secretary Brent Neiman is traveling to Hong Kong on Wednesday as part of an effort to “deepen ties between the world’s two largest economies,” a Treasury official tells CNN.

But are the Chinese officials trust what the administration says and does.

China hit back after U.S. President Joe Biden referred to President Xi Jinping as a "dictator", saying the remarks were absurd and a provocation, an unexpected flare-up following attempts by both sides to reduce friction.

failure..

Well over a decade has passed since the first prisoner arrived in Guantánamo Bay, making it the longest-standing war prison in U.S. history.

Almost 800 men have passed through Guantánamo’s cells. Today, 40 men remain. Fashioned as an “island outside the law” where terrorism suspects could be detained without process and interrogated without restraint.

Guantánamo has been a catastrophic failure on every front. It is long past time for this shameful episode in American history to be brought to a close. ACLU.  Just a thought.

President Biden visited Vietnam on Sunday to celebrate a new upgrade in Washington-Hanoi relations, despite concerns about the country’s recent authoritarian crackdown and a report that it is secretly in pursuit of an arms deal with Russia.
The trip to Hanoi was centered on the signing of a “comprehensive strategic partnership” with the Vietnamese, a symbolic but significant status long coveted by the United States. Since taking office, Mr. Biden has sought to enhance relations with several Southeast Asian nations because of their tactical value as a bulwark against rising Chinese aggression in the Indo-Pacific region.
CNN's Jeremy Diamond asked him about whether he was "putting the US’s strategic interests above those of human rights."
the G 20 followed by Vietnam. Is that one success story after another?
"Vietnam in particular has a poor record as it relates to any political dissent. They are the third-largest jailer of journalists in the world. And the president said, I don’t put anything above human rights.

The Army announced Sept. 6 that it will no longer upgrade its old Abrams Main Battle Tank and that it will build a new fighting vehicle instead.

The Army will close out the M1A2 System Enhancement Package version 4 effort and develop M1E3 Abrams, “which will focus on making the capability improvements needed to fight and win against future threats on the battlefield of 2040 and beyond,” an Army statement said.

Maj. Gen. Glenn Dean, program executive officer for Ground Combat Systems, said: “The war in Ukraine has highlighted a critical need for integrated protections for soldiers, built from within instead of adding on.”

The Ukraine war has brought the use of loitering munitions, also called kamikaze drones, to the fore as a weapon of choice.

That was quick decision?  Just a thought.
