Depravity...

Political Cartoon: What’s the message?

Any time large groups of angry people gather spontaneously, property damage is common. Most race scholars argue that unprovoked police violence against peaceful protesters is the larger societal problem, and no amount of stolen merchandise will ever equal the loss of even a single human life

Still, “the looting that takes place in these situations is usually interpreted as evidence of human depravity,” the sociologists Russell Dynes and E. L. Quarantelli wrote in their seminal study on looting in 1968, another year in which protests resulted in widespread property damage and death.

The sentiment in some corners seems to be, If only they would just march peacefully, and not loot, we’d be fine with this.

The man, identified as Martin Gugino, seen walking towards a line of police officers in riot gear advancing forward.
As he gestured to one of the cops, others yelled for him to move back. They listen to him for 30 second  and was pushed in the chest, knocking him over backward.
One officer appeared to call the ambulance for assistance. Two officers were suspended.
Fifty-seven officers  resigned in  disgust because of the treatment of two of their members, who were simply executing orders," Buffalo Police Benevolent Association president John Evans told WGRZ.
Mayor Byron Brown said he wants the two suspended officers to get due process. "I am not calling for them to be fired."
Speaking of the injured man, the mayor said, "He was asked to leave numerous times last night."
Police felt that it was important to clear the area before fights broke out among the protesters, the mayor said. He stressed that the instructions from the police managers to officers was to be careful, protect residents and use common sense.

New York City saw its first day without any confirmed deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday, according to new data from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The city reported its first confirmed Covid-19 death on March 11, and the number peaked on April 7 when 590 coronavirus patients died in New York City, according to the city's data. Confirmed deaths have been steadily declining since then, falling below 100 on May 9 for the first time since March 24.
.The milestone marks a hopeful point in the recovery of the city, which was the initial epicenter of the U.S. outbreak. It also represents a turning point in the country's epidemic, as restrictions on individual movement and businesses has driven down the spread of the virus in the hardest-hit cities such as New York.

Black-and-White Thinking in our Social Worlds | Psychology Today

Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Gale called the Black Lives Matter movement a "radical left-wing hate group" that was among the "perpetrators of this urban domestic terror."
"This organization, in particular, screams racism not to expose bigotry and injustice, but to justify the lawless destruction of our cities and surrounding communities," Gale said in a statement.

"Their objective is to unleash chaos and mayhem without consequence by falsely claiming they, in fact, are the victims."

Gale went on to call systemic police brutality and racism a "narrative" pushed by the media.

Many politicians are asking for his resignation.

Comment: I wouldn't specify an organization as been described by the commissioner unless their policies indicate that to some extent.  Just a thought.
