Elizabeth Warren faced the grim reality of finishing third on her home turf of Massachusetts and seemed unlikely to pick up as many delegates overall as her aides had confidently predicted she would just days before.

“Our internal projections continue to show Elizabeth winning delegates in nearly every state in play on Super Tuesday, and in a strong position to earn a sizable delegate haul coming out of the night,” wrote her campaign manager, Roger Lau, in a Sunday memo that claimed her campaign was “built to compete in every state and territory and ultimately prevail at the national convention in Milwaukee.”

But when the results from voting in 14 Super Tuesday states began trickling in as she left the stage, they fell short of even the modest predictions of her campaign aides only days earlier, leaving any path she still has toward the nomination non existing.

“I’m retiring,” Matthews said. “This is the last ‘Hardball’ on MSNBC.”

Matthews was due to retire in the near future with the events of the past week playing a factor in the timing of the move, an MSNBC spokesperson said.

After MSNBC aired a commercial following the announcement, Matthews did not return to the program. Steve Kornacki, a political reporter for the network, took over the rest of the hour, and seemed shocked by the news.

 “That was a lot to take in,” he said, saying it had been an honor to work with Matthews, and then beginning a discussion about the coronavirus response

The recent accusation that Matthews made inappropriate comments to a female journalist was not the first time he had faced such allegations. In 2017, The Daily Caller reported that MSNBC formally reprimanded Matthews over jokes and comments he made to a female employee in 1999. “For making such comments in the past, I’m sorry,” Matthews said on tonight’s broadcast.

Matthews had recently drawn criticism for comments about Sanders, who is currently the frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination.  Matthews apologized after comparing Sanders' win in the Nevada caucuses to the Nazis taking over France in World War II.

Apparently, the Network thought that Sanders is the front runner at the time.

The Supreme Court made it easier for states to prosecute immigrants who use fake Social Security numbers to get a job.

The issue for the court was whether states could pursue the immigrants in court or had to leave those choices to the federal government, which typically has authority over immigration.

The court ruled 5-4, with conservatives in the majority, that nothing in federal immigration law prevents states from going after immigrants who use phony documents and numbers.

The Kansas Supreme Court had ruled that the federal government has exclusive authority to determine whether an immigrant may work in the United States. It threw out state convictions for three immigrants, but the high court reversed the state ruling, in an opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito. “The mere fact that state laws like the Kansas provisions at issue overlap to some degree with federal criminal provisions does not even begin to make a case for" the state having to forgo prosecution, Alito wrote.

Kansas prosecuted the cases at issue by relying on information that is on a required federal work authorization form, the I-9. Kansas was backed by the Trump administration and 12 states in arguing that it can prosecute because the same information also appears on state work forms.
