The United Arab Emirates has begun collecting new "sin" taxes on tobacco products, energy drinks and soft drinks.
Beginning Sunday, tobacco and energy drinks will be taxed at 100 percent and soft drinks at 50 percent. Shoppers could be seen stocking up the day before.
The new tax push comes as the UAE and other oil-rich Gulf nations have struggled with low global energy prices.
The UAE will start collecting a 5-percent value-added tax on certain goods in January.
All six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council have agreed to begin collecting so-called VAT taxes, though others may begin later than January.
The GCC includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

One unexpected habit to steal from Japanese eating culture is the emphasis placed on food’s appearance. Small portions and colorful, seasonal vegetables make for a visually appealing and healthy plate. The small portions may help to keep calories in check, while bright veggies provide a range of healthy vitamins and minerals.
Mexico- Traditional Mexican culture includes, a mid-day feast that’s the largest in the day not dinner.
Beans definitely deserve the title of “superfood” due to their high levels of protein, fiber, and vitamins. Go for dried or low-sodium canned beans for a healthier burrito.

Consumption of fruits and vegetables with dark skins, like spinach, beets, red bell peppers, onions, eggplants, prunes, blackberries, strawberries, red grapes, oranges, and cherries.
Beans, nuts, healthy grains, olive oil, small amounts of meat, dairy, and red wine or purple grape juice with your evening meal can help.
Fatty fish like salmon [rich in omega-3 fatty acids] help lower rates of Alzheimer’s .
Hypertension appears to be associated with both vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Active social life and strong network of friends help.

A hospice nurse called an Alabama pharmacy to ask why pain medication wasn't working.
Click, 30 , is accused of tampering with vials of medicine by removing morphine to feed his opioid addiction and shipping off diluted, ineffective medicine.
As the lead pharmacy technician at Birmingham-based ContinuumRx of Central Alabama, Click prepared IV fluid bags containing medications for patients, prosecutors wrote in court records. The IV bags included the opioids morphine or hydromorphone.
In September 2016, Click distracted a pharmacist who witnessed him taking morphine from a cabinet and putting it in his pocket, prosecutors said.
Click "would take the opioids, draw out the desired amount, and replace it with saline or sterile water."
When the drugs failed to relieve the patients' pain, nurses would call ContinuumRx, often seeking guidance from Click since he was the technical expert at the pharmacy.
