Fake Outrage..

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has urged the public to avoid extreme political labels, refusing to call opponents “Nazis” or compare them to Hitler. Fetterman has sought to position himself as an independent voice, repeatedly criticizing colleagues for heated rhetoric.
Fetterman stated, “I just can’t call people these kinds of extreme things.” He added, “For me, I just refuse to be a part of that fake outrage or to call those kinds of names.”
Fetterman said, “Otherwise, we continue to cheapen our language and use those kinds of terms.”
Fetterman also questioned Congress’s handling of the latest government shutdown and urged party leaders to take greater accountability.
Fetterman stressed reducing political tension and refuses to equate opponents with historical totalitarian figures.

High Intake..

high intake of animal protein, particularly from red and processed meats, is linked to an increased risk of cancer. This is because animal protein can promote the production of growth hormones like IGF-1, which can stimulate both healthy and cancerous cells.

The effect is more pronounced in middle age, while a moderate intake may be beneficial for older adults, notes Scientific American.

Growth hormones: Animal protein intake can increase levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), a hormone that promotes cell growth and can stimulate tumors.

  • Specific proteins: A diet high in protein during middle age is linked to a four-fold increase in cancer mortality risk, similar to the risk of smoking, according to Scientific American.
  •  High intake of red and processed meats is associated with a higher risk of colorectal cancer. Dairy protein intake may also increase the risk of prostate cancer, notes NIH.
  • Age matters: The risk from high animal protein intake appears to be most significant during middle age. For those over 65, a moderate protein intake may be beneficial for preventing frailty.
  • Total intake is key: Maintaining a balance is crucial. The goal is to have adequate, but not excessive, protein intake from all sources.
  • Plant protein is beneficial: Plant-based protein is generally linked to better health outcomes and lower mortality risk.
  •  Other factors, such as genetics and the overall composition of the diet, play a significant role in cancer risk.    Just a thought.

Justice..

President Donald Trump and co-defendants have had a Georgia racketeering case dropped after Peter Skandalakis, the executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, moved to discontinue it. Skandalakis said the decision was made to “serve the interests of justice,” noting the case will not proceed in Fulton County.

The dismissal effectively shuts down the only remaining state-level prosecution tied to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

With Judge McAfee dismissing the case outright, Georgia’s role in the post-election legal battles comes to an end.

Skandalakis noted that pursuing the case would take years, and separating Trump from other defendants would be impractical and costly.

Skandalakis  wrote, “In my professional judgment, the citizens of Georgia are not served by pursuing this case in full for another five to ten years.”

Corrupt..

Seventy New York City Housing Authority employees have been convicted of bribery, fraud or extortion after what federal prosecutors called the largest single-day corruption sweep in the Department of Justice's history.

The convictions come after all 70 were arrested and charged in February 2024 with accepting cash bribes in exchange for awarding NYCHA repair contracts, bypassing the agency’s competitive bidding process.

According to federal prosecutors, 56 of the defendants pleaded guilty to felony charges, 11 pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and three were convicted at trial. Collectively, they accepted more than $2.1 million in bribes in exchange for steering over $15 million in contracts.

part of the plea agreements or verdicts, the workers have been ordered to pay more than $2.1 million in restitution to NYCHA and forfeit an additional $2 million in criminal proceeds, authorities said.

The scheme affected nearly a third of NYCHA’s 335 developments across the five boroughs, according to Jocelyn E. Strauber, commissioner of the city’s Department of Investigation.

“Today’s guilty plea is the latest step in exposing a scheme that exploited NYCHA’s operations, shortchanged its communities, and siphoned trust and resources from NYCHA residents.

Corruption..

As Russia’s renewed attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure cause rolling blackouts ahead of winter, a major embezzlement and kickbacks scandal involving the state-owned nuclear power company has put top officials under scrutiny.

It’s fast becoming one of the most significant government crises since Moscow’s full-scale invasion, with media reports implicating a close associate of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Responding to a public backlash, Zelenskyy called for the dismissal of his justice and energy ministers amid the investigation. They later submitted their resignations, the prime minister said.

Anti-corruption watchdogs, the same agencies Zelenskyy sought to weaken earlier this year, revealed the findings of a 15-month investigation, including 1,000 hours of wiretaps, resulting in the detention of five people, and another seven linked to about $100 million in kickbacks in the energy sector.

The country has been plagued by corruption since gaining independence, and Zelenskyy was elected on a mandate to eliminate graft. Military procurement scandals led to the ouster of Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov in 2023.

Sheila..

Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., announced plans to file an expulsion resolution against Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-Fla., if she doesn’t resign.
Federal prosecutors charged McCormick with stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds, accusations she fully denies.

Hours after prosecutors announced on Nov. 19 that Cherfilus-McCormick had been indicted on charges of stealing $5 million federal disaster aid and sending some of it to her election campaign, Rep. Greg Steube, R-Florida, posted on X he would try to censure her if she didn’t resign. He then announced he would “move straight to expulsion,” and filed legislation that is still pending.
Democrats say she’s innocent until proven guilty.  Just a thought.
