Honest..

The former New York prosecutor of Orange County, Stewart Rosenwasser, 72, allegedly accepted $63,000 in bribe payments while he was the chief counsel to the District Attorney's Office and executive assistant district attorney.

He fatally shot himself as FBI agents tried to arrest him.

The indictment including bribery, conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, wire fraud, extortion under color of official right and making false statements.

He seized money from the Mout'z "Marty" Soudani's relatives, which he funneled into the former restaurant owner's pockets "as restitution."

Free..

More than 13,000 immigrants convicted of homicide — either in the United States or abroad — are living freely in the U.S., outside of Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention, according to data ICE provided to Congress earlier this week.

The immigrants are part of ICE’s “non-detained” docket, meaning the agency has some information on the immigrants and they have pending immigration cases in the U.S., but they are not currently in detention either because they are not prioritized for detention or because ICE cannot find them. Just a thought.

Norway’s chief diplomat, Espen Barth Eide told The Associated Press that “there is a growing consensus in the international community from Western countries, from Arab countries, from the Global South, that we need to establish a Palestinian Authority, a Palestinian government, a Palestinian state — and the Palestinian state has to be recognized.”

Eide said many issues need to be addressed, including the security interests of Israel and the Palestinians, recognition and normalization of relations after decades of conflict and the demobilization of Hamas as a military group.

Hope for a new world. Just a thought.

Fraud..

Bronx-based former immigration attorney, Kofi Amankwaa, pled guilty to immigration fraud in federal court on Sept. 17 in connection with his supervision of a multi-year scheme to file fraudulent immigration documents under the Violence Against Women Act (“VAWA”), federal prosecutors said. As reported in January, Attorney General Letitia James sued Amankwaa and other lawyers for scamming immigrants.

In the context of the announcement, Damian Williams, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said Amankwaa pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Katherine Polk Failla, adding, “For years, Kofi Amankwaa oversaw a massive immigration fraud scheme, filing thousands of immigration documents falsely alleging that his clients were victims of abuse by their children or other family members.”

Never Complained..

Donald Trump had a decent day in court on Thursday, as his lawyer pressed a panel of New York state appellate judges to upend the massive, nine-figure fraud ruling against the former president and his business empire. If the judges’ pointed questions to the state are any indication, then there’s a chance that New York Attorney General Letitia James’ stunning trial victory earlier this year could be curbed.

Part of the issue boils down to how broadly James used a state law to go after Trump, given that it wasn’t a case where victims were conned and then complained to the government about it.

The hearing got off to a rough start for the state’s lawyer. Before she could say much at all, one of the judges jumped in to ask whether there had ever been a case where the attorney general sued under the state executive law

to upset a private business transaction that was between equally sophisticated partners, where the supposed victim had the ability and legal obligation to discover the allegedly misrepresented matters by conducting its own due diligence; where the supposed wrongdoer advised the supposed victim, through written disclaimers, to conduct its own due diligence and to draw its own conclusions; where the alleged misrepresentation almost entirely concerned inherently subjective valuations of properties and businesses; and where the victim never complained about any fraud.”
