Super-Delegate...

A surprisingly united vote, almost all members of the Democratic National Convention curtailed the ability of the superdelegates to vote on the first ballot for the party's presidential nominee beginning with the next election.

The group of about 700 automatic, unpledged party leaders, elected officials and activists previously were able to back whichever candidate for the nomination they chose.
This vote officially barred the superdelegates from voting on the first ballot to choose the party's presidential nominee unless a candidate has secured a majority of the convention using only pledged delegates, whose votes are earned during the primary process.

    The Restless Wave...

In 2018, in his memoir The Restless Wave, McCain stated: "The principal reason for invading Iraq, that Saddam had WMD, was wrong."
"The war, with its cost in lives and treasure and security, can't be judged as anything other than a mistake, a very serious one, and I have to accept my share of the blame for it."
As of June 29, 2016, according to the U.S. Department of Defense casualty website, there were 4,424 total deaths (including both killed in action and non-hostile) and 31,952 wounded in action (WIA) as a result of the Iraq War.

New Study Says. Nearly half a million people have died from war-related causes in Iraq since the US-led invasion in 2003, an academic study published in the United States on Oct 15, 2013
The number of injured is not known.
With all this death and miserable life inflected on poor people, what was the outcome to those who promoted the war?

“My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!” Trump wrote.
Early in Trump’s presidential campaign, which he launched by declaring some Mexican immigrants "rapists," the Arizona Republican made clear his distaste for the then-candidate. He said in June 2015 that he did not agree “with his comments about the quote, Mexicans."
When Trump rallied a large crowd in Arizona, he called McCain “incompetent” and “very weak on immigration.” In July 2015, McCain said Trump had “fired up the crazies” in Arizona.

    Hammer...*

    Hagel Nomination, Jan 2013.

McCain backing the Bush administration and its neoconservative and Hagel was part of the growing movement of dissent.

One of McCain's favorite parts of the Bush strategy was the surge, which sent 20,000 additional troops into Iraq [total 130,000].
McCain attempted to re-litigate whether the surge was the right decision, aggressively pressing Hagel on whether he stands by his past statements. He quoted Hagel as saying in 2007 that the surge was the "most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam."

"Were you right?" McCain asked. "Were you correct in your assessment?"
"Well, I would defer to the judgment of history to sort that out," Hagel said.

Hagel added that his comment about the "most dangerous foreign policy blunder" was not just about the surge, but about the overall decision to invade Iraq --

A belief he stood by because it took the U.S. focus off Afghanistan.
    Nothing much changed since Bush,
Now is Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Yemen.

If all you have is a hammer, everything you see looks like a nail.  Just a thought.
