Kill Switch...
International investigators are hunting for those behind an unprecedented cyber-attack that affected systems in dozens of countries, including at banks, hospitals and government agencies.
The assault is the biggest-ever cyber ransom attack at Russian banks, British hospitals, FedEx and European car factories.
The virus spread quickly because the culprits used a digital code believed to have been developed by the US NSA and subsequently leaked per Moscow-based computer security firm Kaspersky Lab .
Microsoft said the situation was "painful" and that it was taking "all possible actions to protect our customers".
Kaspersky said it was "trying to determine whether it is possible to decrypt data locked in the attack with the aim of developing a decryption tool as soon as possible." A cyber security researcher told AFP he had accidentally discovered a "kill switch" that could prevent the spread of the ransomware.

A London woman petitioned U.K. government to make it illegal for companies to require women to wear high heels at work, and the Parliament now must debate the issue.
A 27-year-old Nicola Thorp spoke out about "sexism" she faced when she was sent home for refusing to wear high heels.
Thorp had just been employed as a temporary receptionist for finance consultancy. When
she showed up in black flats for her first day, a supervisor told her
she had to wear two- to four-inch heels or otherwise go home, citing
dress code for female employees.
She said 'You know, I don’t see why what I’m wearing is going to affect
my job in any way,'" . "It was a 9-hour shift to escort clients from the
front desk to meeting rooms. I’d be on my feet for nine hours."
On Twitter, the
company said "with immediate effect, all our female colleagues can wear
plain flat shoes or plain court shoes as they prefer."
Under U.K. law, employers can dismiss staff who fail to live up to
"reasonable" dress code demands, as long as they've been given enough
time to buy shoes and clothes.
