Red Line...?

Image result for syria cartoon

After the sarin attack on the Damascus suburb, USA was ready to launch air strike to punish the Syrian government for allegedly crossing the ‘red line.

The strike was postponed as Congress prepared for hearings, and subsequently cancelled when Obama accepted Assad’s offer to relinquish his chemical arsenal in a deal brokered by Russia.

Why did Obama delay and then relent on Syria when he was not shy about rushing into Libya? The answer lies in a clash between those in the administration who were committed to enforcing the red line, and military leaders who thought that going to war was both unjustified and potentially disastrous.

British intelligence had obtained a sample of the sarin used and its analysis demonstrated that the gas used didn’t match the batches known to exist in the Syrian army’s chemical weapons arsenal.

For months there had been acute concern among senior military leaders and the intelligence community about the role in the war of Syria’s neighbours, especially Turkey. Prime Minister Recep Erdoğan was known to be supporting the al-Nusra Front, a jihadist faction among the rebel opposition, as well as other Islamist rebel groups.

The American and British intelligence communities had been aware since the spring of 2013 that some rebel units in Syria were developing chemical weapons.

Secretary of State John Kerry lauded Moscow’s “constructive role” in major diplomatic breakthroughs such as the Syrian ceasefire and Iran nuclear deal. He also had rare compliments for Vladimir Putin.

In a rare acknowledgment of Russia’s input in solving world crises, Kerry admitted that Moscow’s role was actually crucial in saving Syria from complete chaos. [caused perhaps by US allies in the area]
“If they hadn’t played a constructive role, we would not have gotten the chemical weapons out of Syria and they would be in the hands of ISIL [Islamic State / IS], and if they hadn’t played a constructive role, we would not have gotten the cessation of hostilities or everybody at the table in Geneva,” Kerry added.

Putin accused Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of inciting unrest in Russia, as he grappled with the prospect of large-scale political protest for the first time in his more than decade-long rule.

Why undermine Russia, its politics and Economics while they can be helpful?

Syria was in the crosshairs of the empire long before 2005. In a 2007 speech, General Wesley Clark recounts a conversation he had with then Undersecretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz in 1991 regarding Operation Desert Storm.       “one thing we learned is that we can use our military in the Middle East and the Soviets won’t stop us.......”

Further adding to this evidence is the testimony of former French Foreign Minister Roland Dumas, who stated on television that, roughly 2 years before hostilities began in Syria, British officials admitted to him that they were ‘preparing something’ in the country.
“England was preparing the invasion of the rebels in Syria,” he said

Israeli National News reported March 21st that “Seven police and at least four demonstrators in Syria have been killed in continuing violent clashes that erupted in the southern town of Daraa last Thursday.” [Emphasis mine]  the opposition was not peaceful, but instead were armed and firing at police. There were more police killed than protesters in this incident.

The truth is stranger than fiction.
While we don't know the truth about Syria's issue, one day we will.

  • The war in Syria is raging for five years. Money is coming from everywhere to promote instability of a country and destroy hope of its people. Weapons are provided freely by those who can manufacture it and someone is paying for it. These fighters are well paid in a place where business died and the only flourishing aspect is carrying arms and killing someone.  Where are world powers?  And why Syria is the place? Just a thought.

A nationwide Syrian cease-fire brokered by Russia and Turkey that went into effect at midnight held  despite minor violations, marking a potential breakthrough in a conflict that has disregarded high-level peace initiatives for over five years.

The truce came on the heels of a Russian-Turkish agreement earlier this month to evacuate the last rebels from eastern Aleppo after they were confined to a tiny enclave by a government offensive.

The United States was left out of the agreements, reflecting the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Washington after the failure of previous diplomatic efforts on Syria.

As with previous agreements, the current cease-fire excludes both the al-Qaida-affiliated Fatah al-Sham Front, which fights alongside other rebel factions, and the Islamic State group.

If it holds, the truce between the Syrian government and the country's mainstream rebel forces will be followed by peace talks next month in Kazakhstan,

"We can say part of the optimism could be related to better relation between the United States and Russia," Assad said, speaking in English.

Peace is far better, even if it is done by others.   Just a thought.

The U.S. stated that the intent was to remove "a regime that developed and used weapons of mass destruction, that harbored and supported terrorists, committed outrageous human rights abuses, and defied the just demands of the United Nations and the world."

In the lead-up to the invasion, the U.S. and UK emphasized the argument that Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction and that he thus presented a threat to his neighbors and to the world community.  .

The resolution strengthened the mandate of the UN (UNMOVIC) and (IAEA), giving them authority to go anywhere, at any time and talk to anyone in order to verify Iraq's disarmament."

Throughout late 2001, 2002, and early 2003, the Bush Administration worked to build a case for invading Iraq, culminating in then Secretary of State Colin Powell's February 2003 address to the Security Council.  Evidence linking Hussein and Al-Qaeda was discredited by multiple U.S. intelligence agencies.

Obama- Hillary tried regime change in Syria, and Libya, and the outcome of death continue.

Bleak...?

A Syrian man wanted for allegedly preparing a bombing attack was apprehended by three of his countrymen. This ended a nationwide search for the 22-year-old that German authorities launched after finding several pounds of explosives hidden inside an apartment in the eastern city of Chemnitz.

The terrorist arrived in Germany amid a flood of 890,000 asylum seekers last year.

A security official said there was no indication yet that Albakr was being directed by the Islamic State group.    A 33-year-old Syrian arrested and is considered a co-conspirator in the alleged bomb plot, prosecutors said.

The incident comes amid ongoing concerns about the flood of asylum seekers that entered Germany and increasing support for populist parties with anti-migrant rhetoric.
The country also has been on edge since two attacks in July carried out by asylum seekers and claimed by the Islamic State group.

Millions of Syrians fled the war to the neighboring countries in the worst humanitarian disaster in recent history. Many want to stay home, providing that we help stabilize the country.     It is very hard for the migrant and their families to adjust in the western world.  The vast differences in social, economics, religions, and personal standards make it very difficult to adjust.

Can we help stabilize Syria?
