Crushing..

Former President Donald J. Trump is dominating his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, leading his nearest challenger, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida, by a landslide 37 percentage points nationally among the likely Republican primary electorate, according to the first New York Times/Siena College poll of the 2024 campaign.

Mr. Trump held decisive advantages across almost every demographic group and region and in every ideological wing of the party, the survey found, as Republican voters waved away concerns about his escalating legal jeopardy. He led by wide margins among men and women, younger and older voters, moderates and conservatives, those who went to college and those who didn’t, and in cities, suburbs and rural areas.

The poll shows that some of Mr. DeSantis’s central campaign arguments — that he is more electable than Mr. Trump, and that he would govern more effectively — have so far failed to break through. Even Republicans motivated by the type of issues that have fueled Mr. DeSantis’s rise, such as fighting “radical woke ideology,” favored the former president.

Fight..

With The Biden's administration spent 100 Billions of dollar sending weapons to the Ukraine including the Cluster munition, fueling the war in Europe though the UK, Spain, and others oppose it due to humanitarian concerns.     Just a thought.

Threat..

While there is a prevalent belief in the United States that the country almost always wages war for noble purposes and in defense of freedom, global public opinion and facts paint a very different picture.

Most countries surveyed in a 2013 WIN/Gallup poll identified the United States as the greatest threat to world peace, and a 2017 Pew Research poll found that a record number of people in 30 surveyed nations viewed US power and influence as a "major threat."

The US has also invaded or bombed dozens of countries and supported nearly every single right wing dictatorship in the world since the end of World War II.

It has overthrown or attempted to overthrow dozens of foreign governments since 1949 and has actively sought to crush nearly every single people's liberation movement over that same period. It has also meddled in scores of elections, in countries that are allies and adversaries alike.    [Brett Wilkins]

Parkinson..

Regular treadmill exercise may help in preventing Parkinson’s disease, according to new research.

These findings provide hope for non-drug treatments, like physical activity, to slow down the progression of the disease.

According to researchers in Italy, engaging in intensive exercise, such as daily treadmill runs, can stimulate the production of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). It is a protein critical for the survival and growth of brain neurons.

By promoting the health of neurons, BDNF enhances the brain’s capacity to reorganize and adapt, which is crucial for learning and memory. Moreover, BDNF aids in reducing the spread of pathological alpha-synuclein aggregates, associated with neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s.

Famine..

The UN says Yemen is experiencing the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

It says 4.5 million people, one in seven of the population, have been displaced. while 24.1 million people, 80% of the population, are in need of humanitarian aid and protection.

The UN says that tens of thousands of people in Yemen are currently living in famine-like conditions, while some six million people are on the verge of famine.

The naval blockade imposed on Yemen has substantially contributed to pushing Yemeni civilians into starvation and can be considered torture, the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) said in a report published today.

The U.S. tacitly cooperated with the blockade by not challenging it, and the U.S. Navy occasionally announces it has intercepted smuggled weapons from Iran, suggesting a more active role than the administration admits.

Ukrainian troops are suffering from deteriorating morale as casualties mount in their grinding counteroffensive to take back territory from Russia, a report says.

Reporter said that as soon as they attack Russian positions, they use artillery to "hammer our positions from front to back."

"As long as we are standing and holding on, we can say there are no losses; there may be some light injuries. As soon as we move forward, there are hefty losses. Up to half a unit for every kilometer we capture," or roughly 0.6 miles, "and it is not a given that we will hold this kilometer later," he said.

Russian forces prepared by creating dense minefields, which means Ukraine's forces are moving "at a snail's pace." "Every square inch is mined," he said.

He added that many sappers are being killed as they go ahead of the other troops.

Threat..

The U.S. military has recognized climate change as an “existential” threat to national security, spurring conflict and mass migration.

But critics say it hasn’t done enough to stave off climate change—and that’s partly because it’s not required to share how much it pollutes. The U.S. military is the single largest institutional source of greenhouse gas emissions in the world, according to Brown University’s Costs of War Project. (This is despite reducing emissions from a peak of around 85 million tons in 2004.)

Using Department of Energy data, researcher found that the U.S. military is a major polluter. Since the beginning of the Global War on Terror in 2001, the military has produced more than 1.2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases. The data is likely incomplete—but even with the available data, she found that the U.S. military emits more than entire countries like Portugal and Denmark, and that the Department of Defense accounts for nearly 80% of the federal government’s fuel consumption.

Sending..

The U.S. is sending two amphibious warships and thousands of Marines to the Middle East to bolster regional security after Iranian forces threatened commerce in and out of the Persian Gulf, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

Amphibious warship USS Bataan (LHD-5) and USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) and elements of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit on the two ships are being dispatched to the U.S. Central Command.
The announcement comes days after the U.S. sent additional warships and fighters to the Middle East to deter Iranian forces from interfering with merchant traffic.
On July 5, the Iranian corvette IRINS Bayandor (81) fired on the merchant tanker Richard Voyager in an attempt to seize the ship off the coast of Oman. Just a thought.

Greenhouse..

In 2017, for example, the Pentagon's total greenhouse gas emissions (installations and operations) were greater than the greenhouse gas emissions of entire industrialized countries, such as Sweden, Denmark and Portugal and also greater than all CO2 emissions from US production of iron and steel.

Sinéad..

SinĂ©ad O’Connor, the fiery Irish singer and songwriter whose striking voice briefly made her an unlikely pop superstar in the early Nineties, while her bold public stances on child abuse, war, and organized religion kept her in the news, has died at the age of 56.

Already a rising star in the late ‘80s, O’Connor shot to fame in 1990 when her version of the Prince song “Nothing Compares 2 U” became a Number One hit.

Her Celtic-tinged vocal style, marked by breathy swoops that were by turns soothing and abrasive, would echo throughout the Nineties,

Elephant..

The United States and allies conducted an exercise called "elephant walk" on the island of Guam. Approximately two dozen aircraft took part.

The event took place on 19 July 2023. The aircraft took to the skies simultaneously at the US Air Force Base Andersen:

  • five F-35 Lightning II (USAF);
  • one B-52H Stratofortress;
  • two KC-135 Stratotanker (USA);
  • two C-17 Globemaster III (USA);
  • one C-130 Hercules (USA);
  • four Rafale (France);
  • two A400 Atlas (France and UK);
  • one A330 MRTT (France);
  • two C-130J Super Hercules (Australia and Canada);
  • one CC-150T Polaris (Canada)
  • one C-130H Hercules (Japan).

Additional B-52H Stratofortress nuclear bombers were parked nearby.

The elephant in the room is global warming, "No fossil fuel " claims. In order to show power and to deter or threaten Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, and others, let the Elephant walk.

Happy Elephant Walk.

Warlike..

The only US president to complete his term without war, military attack or occupation has called the United States "the most warlike nation in the history of the world."

Jimmy Carter revealed that he had recently spoken with President Donald Trump about China.

Carter, said Trump was worried about China's growing economy and expressed concern that "China is getting ahead of us."

Carter, told Trump that much of China's success was due to its peaceful foreign policy.

Carter then referred to the US as "the most warlike nation in the history of the world," a result of the US forcing other countries to "adopt our American principles."

"Since 1979, do you know how many times China has been at war with anybody?" Carter asked. "None, and we have stayed at war."

China has been at peace with its neighbors and the world.

Empire..

Never in U.S. history has the country had a president with the voluminous paper trail that followed Biden into the White House, since the Vietnam War.

The picture that emerges is of a man who is dedicated to the U.S. as an Empire, who believes that preserving U.S. national interests and “prestige” on the global stage outweighs considerations of morality or even at times the deaths of innocent people.

It also reveals a politician who consistently claims to hold bedrock principles but who often strays from those positions in support of a partisan agenda or because he wants a policy adopted regardless of the hypocrisy or contradictions. Nowhere is this dynamic more pronounced than on U.S. wars.

Parade..

A parade of senior American policy makers is traveling to Beijing on diplomatic missions to mend tattered relations between the United States and China. The U.S. climate envoy John Kerry is expected in Beijing on Sunday, a week after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was in town. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited a month ago.

 Xi’s government was so eager to paint Yellen’s visit in a positive light that it laid things on a bit thick. Referring to a rainbow that appeared over Beijing upon Yellen’s arrival, Premier Li Qiang told Yellen that the U.S. and China can see “more rainbows” after a period of “wind and rain.” With the U.S. and its allies moving to “de-risk,” or reduce their reliance on China.

 Xi and his team seem to be in the mood to chat, charm, and change minds. But they will never forget the constant bad mouthing of China.  Just a thought.

Duo..

Beans could be nature's perfect food. These little powerhouses are packed with vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals, according to 2021 research in Nutrients

But what really takes them to the next level is their unique combo of plant protein and fiber. At the same time, beans contain little, if any, saturated fat, and they are cholesterol-free, per the US Dry Bean Council

Beans' magical duo of protein and fiber has multiple benefits, including weight control.

"Getting more of these nutrients in your diet promotes satiety and helps keep you fuller for longer periods," says Yanni Papanikolaou, M.P.H., a nutrition researcher and president of Nutritional Strategies, Inc.

"Accumulating evidence suggests that people who eat higher amounts of protein and fiber also have healthier BMIs," he says. Most recently, a 2023 Nutrients study of 15,185 people found that, over the course of a decade, bean eaters gained less weight–and belly fat–compared to people who didn't eat beans.

The US Secret Service has closed its investigation into the discovery of cocaine in the White House.

It said it had attempted to determine a suspect through fingerprints, DNA traces and video evidence, but had not been able to do so.

The cocaine was discovered earlier this month in a storage area of the West Wing where visitors taking tours must leave their mobile phones.

The small plastic bag used to contain the drugs was discovered in an area that can be accessed by members of the public, and where mobile phones and other personal devices are stored before entering the White House.

It's too bad that no one knows [officially] the identity of whoever left the cocaine behind. Suspicion would continue to hover on certain people unfairly.
