The Biden administration is reportedly working to curb Iran’s ability to deliver drones to Russian troops for use in Ukraine by expanding efforts to choke Tehran’s production of the unmanned aerial vehicles.

The New York Times reported on the expanded push Wednesday, citing unnamed intelligence, military and national security officials. The administration is focusing on depriving Iran of the parts it needs to produce the drones.

Adrienne Watson, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, told the newspaper officials are “looking at ways to target” Iranian drone production “through sanctions, export controls, and talking to private companies whose parts have been used in the production.”

The U.S. is also helping Ukrainian defenders target sites where drones are being launched and providing equipment to detect the drones early after launch, according to the Times.

Who are we helping? The Ukranian war is creating chaos for the Ukraine where millions fled their homes, and businesses deteriorated. Poor countries worldwide are struggling with energy shortage like oil, going back to coal, food shortage, higher prices, Inflation, and the associated curbing of economic development.

 A recent study found that taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such ibuprofen or naproxen for joint pain due to osteoarthritis may actually increase inflammation. 

All participants in the study had an MRI of the knee, initially and during a four-year follow-up, to track cartilage thickness, composition, and other measurements to evaluate arthritis progression. 

The scientists found that long-term use of NSAIDs had no benefit, and joint inflammation and cartilage quality were worse at a four-year follow-up, compared to the control group.

“In this large group of participants, we were able to show that there were no protective mechanisms from NSAIDs in reducing inflammation or slowing down the progression of osteoarthritis of the knee joint.

 Shi Yi, the spokesman for the PLA’s Eastern Theater Command, in a statement announced that the PLA was holding joint combat patrols and joint strike drills in the waters around Taiwan.

Shi was referring to the U.S. defense spending bill, which calls China a strategic challenge. With regard to the Indo-Pacific region, the legislation authorizes increased security cooperation with Taiwan and requires expanded cooperation with India on emerging defense technologies, readiness and logistics.

China’s military has often used large military exercises as a demonstration of force in response to U.S. government actions in support of Taiwan.

It conducted large live-fire military exercises in August in response to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Beijing views visits from foreign governments to the island as de facto recognition of the island as independent and a challenge to China’s claim of sovereignty.

A new bill passed in Scotland made it the first region of the United Kingdom to approve a self-identification process for changing gender, including removing the need for a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria and lowering the minimum age to 16 from 18.  

Home women's rights campaigners have argued the changes could pose a threat to the safety of women and girls by making it easier for predatory men to access single-sex spaces such as bathrooms. 

Supporters of the bill, however, said the reforms benefit transgender people and pose no threat to women's rights.

Wang on Friday accused the US of trying to suppress China’s development. Washington must pay attention to Beijing’s legitimate concerns, he said, warning the US against trying to challenge China’s red lines using “salami slicing” tactics.

He was referring to the practice of using a series of small actions to achieve a much larger result that would be difficult to accomplish with a single large action.

"BRITTNEY GRINER'S HOMECOMING was celebrated Monday night in front of 20 people at University Baptist Church in Waco. Baylor is on winter break. The church livestreamed the event," ESPN reported.  

"Apparently there was a homecoming celebration for Britney Griner in Waco and only 20 people showed up," Tyler Zed tweeted. "Talk about embarrassing."

G-7 nations agreed to impose a limit on Russian oil in September, and have been working on the details ever since. At the time, the EU's energy chief, Kadri Simson, she was hoping China and India would support the price cap, too.

Both nations stepped up their purchases of Russian oil following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, benefiting from discounted rates. Their participation is seen as essential if the restrictions on Russian oil are to work.

India's petroleum minister, Shri Hardeep S Puri, said he has a "moral duty" to his country's consumers. "We will buy oil from Russia, we will buy from wherever," he added.

As such, there are growing doubts about the true impact of the restrictions on Russia.

The Russian Aerospace Force academics describe the Pentagon’s air, land, sea, cyber and space integration strategy to paralyze an enemy, known as multi-domain operations, as an existential threat to Russia’s national security.

The scientists propose countering the U.S. strategy with a comprehensive air operation to disrupt its integrated massive air strike “by causing intolerable damage to the enemy.”
Russian forces would need to strike critical NATO targets with aircraft, drones, missiles, electronic warfare and new hypersonic weapons to prevent them from attacking first, according to the military scientists’ academic paper.

Research published has confirmed a link between a Covid infection and a debilitating heart condition called POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, that has been diagnosed in some patients with long Covid.

The findings, published in the journal Nature Cardiovascular Research, are in line with earlier reports from physicians that Covid may trigger POTS, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system often characterized by a rapid heart rate, low blood pressure, fainting and lightheadedness.

While the researchers found a small but increased risk of POTS following Covid vaccination and, in particular, the first dose, the risk was greater following a Covid infection itself: Getting Covid was linked to a five times greater risk of POTS than vaccination.

The Biden administration announced Tuesday that it will work to close gaps in the physical barriers along the southwest border and fix environmental and other issues with the Trump-era wall construction amid growing concerns about the federal government's ability to handle high levels of unauthorized migration.

Officials said the latest work, authorized by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, will focus on Arizona, California and Texas and is aimed at addressing safety and environmental concerns brought on by the building of new or upgraded barriers along the border with Mexico.

Installing drainage systems, adding safety features to roadways and remediating some construction sites will take place in various areas between San Diego and El Paso, Texas. The work will also include closing gaps between incomplete sections of barrier and finishing access gates used by Border Patrol.

 a new study published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer’s Association, researchers examined vitamin D in brain tissue.

 They found that higher levels of the vitamin were associated with better cognitive function, a stronger memory and a slower progression of cognitive decline. 

This study marked the first-time vitamin D levels were studied in brain tissue according to the authors, a timely study as experts estimates those living with dementia will surmount 150 million globally by 2050. 

“This research reinforces the importance of studying how food and nutrients create resilience to protect the aging brain against diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias,” says Sarah Booth, an author on the study and director of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.
