Covid Vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are the first two to be granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They’re not identical, but they attack the disease using the same method.

The two COVID-19 vaccines use messenger RNA, or mRNA, to deliver a message to your immune system. In this case, the message tells your cells to create a harmless piece of a specific spike protein that’s found on the surface of COVID-19. Your body recognizes that the spike protein doesn’t belong and starts creating antibodies to remove it. In doing so, your body’s immune system becomes prepared to fight the virus if you encounter it.

It’s important to know that mRNA doesn’t affect your genes in any way because it never enters the nucleus of cells, where your DNA is kept. After the mRNA does its job, it breaks down and is flushed out of your system within hours. It’s also important to know that although mRNA technology for vaccines is new, the mRNA technology itself isn’t. Therapies using mRNA have been around for years and are currently being used to treat cancer and viral diseases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the federal agency charged with safeguarding public health, did just that on Tuesday. It recommended that vaccinated people in regions where the risk of COVID-19 infections has surged should wear masks indoors. This was advice, not an order. 

Nevertheless, some politicians, reporters and social media mavens rebelled against the news  reminding everyone that COVID-19 has brought, along with illness and death, much adolescent griping, and unrealistic demands for clarity amid a complex and often inscrutable pandemic. All of this in a privileged country rescued by the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines.

 It was as if the CDC had told people to wear handcuffs

The agency became a punching bag. ABC, CBS, The Washington Post and Rolling Stone accused public health officials of making an “about-face.” 

 Yes, the CDC’s mask guidelines are confusing,” a MarketWatch headline whined. During an interview. Fox News read, “Biden Admin Slammed Over Masks & Vaccine Reversal.” Real Clear Markets weighed in, too: “The CDC’s Hysterical Delta Flip-Flop Might Be Its Final Undoing.”

 The Media is serving itself creating so much fear by providing one sided story or part of the story.    Just a thought.

A post by Breitbart News, a self-described conservative news website, links to an April 28 article written by the same organization. The article says "around 176,407 people in the U.S. died due to complications for COVID-19 during Biden's first 14 weeks" in office, a period ending April 28.

The article cites Johns Hopkins University data. But data from John Hopkins University and from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

From Jan. 20 to April 28, Biden's first 14 weeks in office, the CDC reported 156,096 new COVID-19 deaths. John Hopkins reported 160,540.

One of most egregiously misleading things Kamala Harris said during her first speech as Joe Biden’s running mate was to compare the outbreak of Ebola to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It didn’t have to be this way,” Harris claimed. “Six years ago, in fact, we had a different health crisis. It was called Ebola. And we all remember that pandemic. But you know what happened then? Barack Obama and Joe Biden did their job. Only two people in the United States died. Two. That is what is called leadership.”

The CDC chief Rochelle Walensky said earlier this week that “vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has walked back the claim made by its director that vaccinated people don’t carry the coronavirus.

Unaware that they are infected, vaccinated people are inadvertently infecting others, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. 

Because of the virulence of the Delta variant, the unvaccinated can no longer count on protection from people who have gotten the shots.

Although daily case rates are rising in some highly vaccinated Bay Area counties, the overall case rate remains low here, so vaccinated people are less likely to be confronted by someone with the virus. That means they’re also less likely to become infected.

So they all can transmit the viruses and the non vaccinated young people should not be singled out for frequent testing. Just a thought.
