Batch...

California’s top doctor is recommending a pause on distributing a specific batch of COVID-19 vaccinations that has been linked to several allergic reactions in downtown San Diego.

A cluster of allergic reactions that prompted California to halt the use of hundreds of thousands of doses of coronavirus vaccine has thrown another wrench into the state’s struggling vaccination rollout, forcing some health care providers to cancel clinics visit.

The development stems from one batch of Moderna vaccines apparently linked to severe allergic reactions in six health care workers who received shots at a mass vaccination site at Petco Park, the Padres’ baseball stadium in San Diego last week. The California Department of Public Health issued a statement recommending that health care providers stop using vaccines from this batch, which arrived in California between Jan. 5 and Jan. 12.

First Dose...

The evidence is very strong that both company's Covid vaccines are very effective at preventing symptomatic COVID infections 12 days after the first dose.

It's very likely that 12 days after getting their first COVID vaccine dose - Pfizer or Moderna - will be well-protected against getting ill from the virus.

Dr. Walsh, one of the leaders of the local trial of the Pfizer vaccine, says the information, while encouraging, is also sparking debate "as to how to optimally benefit in the face of a severely escalating pandemic."

Great Britain is rolling the dice, stretching out time between vaccine doses up to 12 weeks so more people will get at least one dose more quickly.

He says it's also possible that smaller doses might be effective in preventing infections and getting more people vaccinated.

Coincidence...

The Norwegian Medicines Agency said in a statement some common reactions to the vaccine may have contributed to their deaths, which was to be expected in frail patients.

A total of 29 people, all aged over 75, died out of more than 42,000 vaccinations in the Scandinavian country.

University of Auckland vaccinologist Helen Petousis-Harris said there's no indication the two are linked and the virus itself poses a much greater threat to the age bracket.

"I think this is something that we have expected," she told Newshub. "When you start vaccinating the extremely elderly - these are very, very frail people - you are, by chance, going to see deaths occurring shortly after.

Petousis-Harris said the deaths were most likely a coincidence.

Have we coincident our elderly?

Mass...

The Brooklyn Army Terminal will soon become a "mass vaccination site" as the city speeds up its efforts to vaccinate New Yorkers against the coronavirus, the mayor announced.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and health officials unveiled the a new list of sites that will join their plan to double the number of places New Yorkers can get a coronavirus vaccines on Wednesday.

The latest round includes a "mass vaccination site" at the Army Terminal and three smaller "vaccine hubs" that are set to open in Brooklyn in the next week.

The Army Terminal, set to open on Sunday, will be available 24/7 for vaccination appointments for those who qualify, de Blasio said.

The site was shut down 4 days later due to lack of vaccines. An issue very well known ahead of time by all.

But its about the posing and advertisement.

Just a thought.

Chasing...

US defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack or other threat from service members involved in securing President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, prompting the FBI to vet all 25,000 national guard troops coming into Washington for the event.

The massive undertaking reflects the extraordinary security concerns that have gripped Washington following the insurrection at the US Capitol.

And it underscores fears that some of the very people assigned to protect the city over the next several days could present a threat to the incoming president and other VIPs.

Army secretary Ryan McCarthy said officials were conscious of the potential threat, and warned commanders to be on the lookout for problems within their ranks. So far, however, he and other leaders say they have seen no evidence of any threats, and officials said the vetting hadn’t flagged any issues that they were aware of.  [The Guardian]

Living in Fear...

A House impeachment manager acknowledged on Sunday that one reason for charging President Donald Trump with incitement of insurrection was to prevent the outgoing commander in chief from trying to become president again.

the trial could serve as a referendum on whether Trump should be able to seek federal office again, a decision that could affect his grip on the party and reshape the future of the GOP.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a top Trump ally, challenged Biden to call off Democrats’ pursuit of a conviction. Graham warned that the effort would further divide the country and show that Biden is “an incredibly weak figure.”And to my Republican colleagues in the Senate,” he told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, “if we embrace an unconstitutional impeachment of Donald Trump after he’s out of office, it will destroy the party.”

Support...

President Donald Trump retains overwhelming support from Republican voters in the final days of his term, an NBC News poll conducted shows.

Nearly nine in 10 Republicans approve of Trump’s job performance, according to the survey, a figure virtually unchanged from just ahead of the November contest. Eighty-nine percent of Republicans said they approved of Trump before the election, compared to 87% in the most recent poll.

The numbers show that Trump continues to have a strong hold on the loyalty of Republican voters even on his way out the door.

Among Republicans who primarily support Trump, his job approval stands at 98%. For those who primarily support the party, it is 81%.

The more Nancy Pelosi's prosecution of Trump, the more support he will get.

As you look at the Capital today, in preparation for the virtual inauguration on Wed. 1/20/2021, you can imagine the number of troops and service men in the area to protect the Virtual celebration.   Just a thought.
