A British Islamist sentenced to 13 years in prison for plotting to blow up an aircraft, told a NY court recently that four to five Malaysian Islamists were planning to take control of a plane.
On December 11, 1994, a member of the Bojinka plot boarded a Philippine airline, using a false Italian passport. He left a bomb under his seat and got off the plane. The blast blew a hole in the floor, killed one and injured many.
The Bojinka plot was a large-scale attack to assassinate Pope John Paul II, and air bombing of 11 airliners flying from Asia to the United States and kill their 4,000 passengers. The plot was disrupted after a fire drew the Philippine Police's attention on January 6, 1995.
What happened to the Malaysian airline is the same plan from decades ago. False passport, terrorist on board, gain control of the craft, crash it far, so rescue and recovery are difficult.
This terrorist act opens the door for a cooperation between 29 Nations in the area of counter terrorism. It should start with placing the names of members of terrorists organization on a no fly list, so they can't fly at all.
They and their close relatives can use alternative methods to cross the ocean. Build there terrorist airplane, and crash their own airplane. (Wikipedia)
Just a thought.
