Fani..

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was ordered to pay over $20,000 to a conservative watchdog group.

The order to pay originated from an open records case from the conservative group Judicial Watch. The group asked Willis's office to provide it with documents pertaining to possible communications with Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith, who led a separate investigation into Trump's actions surrounding his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election with the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

Earlier this month, Superior Court of Fulton County Judge Robert McBurney ruled that Willis's office violated Judicial Watch’s open records request by categorizing identifying responsive documents as exempt from the request but previously said none of these documents existed.

"Even if the records prove to be just that — exempt from disclosure for sound public policy reasons — this late revelation is a patent violation of the ORA. And for none of this is there any justification, substantial or otherwise: no one searched until prodded by civil litigation," he wrote

Racketeering..

New York City’s “congestion pricing” cash extraction scheme went into effect last week. Already, drivers are fuming.

Under this project, the Big Apple outsources the traditional job of picking the pockets of commuters to a set of robotic cameras. Anyone headed south of 60th Street must hand over $9 for the privilege of using roads already paved and maintained by the highest state and local tax burden in the union.

Lawmakers paid so little attention to the details in setting up this racket that locals trying to avoid the charge are being hit with bills. For instance, the escape from uptown New York to Queens on the Queensboro Bridge results in a $9 tax -- even when the same trip in the opposite direction is free.

This happens because the ramp headed toward Queens briefly dips into 59th Street, where a spy camera eagerly awaits. Locals near the tolling zone’s border face a similar dilemma. One-way street layouts can force them to momentarily step over the charging zone’s invisible line, even when both their origin and destination is outside the zone.

Denial ..

Humanity has a 95% probability of being extinct in 7,800,000 years, according to J. Richard Gott's formulation of the controversial doomsday argument, which argues that we have probably already lived through half the duration of human history.

On the other hand.... The Pentagon, as the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, significantly impacts the environment by being the world's largest institutional consumer of petroleum, making it the single largest emitter of greenhouse gases among institutions globally.

Its military operations and vast network of bases contribute significantly to climate change, with emissions rivaling entire nations like Norway or Sweden.

Cali..

Since the early 2010s, wildfires in California are growing more dangerous because of the accumulation of wood fuel in forests, higher population, and aging and often poorly maintained electricity transmission and distribution lines.

United States taxpayers pay about US$3 billion a year to fight wildfires, and big fires can lead to billions of dollars in property losses.[9]

At times, these wildfires are fanned or made worse by strong, dry winds, known as Diablo winds when they occur in the northern part of the state and Santa Ana winds when they occur in the south

The much larger wildfire seasons in the past can be attributed to the policy of Native Californians regularly setting controlled burns and allowing natural fires to run their course, which prevented devastating wildfires from overrunning the state.[10]

There are conservation issues that aren't allowing as many controlled burns necessary to lessen the damage for when a wildfire starts.[

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on Wednesday that Democrats were open to President-elect Donald Trump 's idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."

However, he noted that he'd only do so if Trump works with Democrats on "an actual plan to lower costs for Americans."

"That is what the American people want us to focus on first, not on renaming bodies of water," Schumer said in a floor speech, adding that his party's priorities "are so much more closely aligned with the concerns of the American people than Donald Trump's seem to be

Peace..

French President Emmanuel Macron extended an olive branch to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, declaring that France is “a solid ally” as he outlined his vision for global diplomacy in 2025 during his New Year’s address to French ambassadors.

Addressing the grinding war in Ukraine, Macron stressed the need for “realistic discussions on territorial questions,” adding, “such negotiations can only be conducted by Ukrainians themselves.”

He called on the United States to “help change the nature of the situation and convince Russia to come to the negotiating table,” while underscoring Europe’s pivotal role.

“The Europeans will have to construct security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be primarily their responsibility,” he said.

Comment: Biden's administration just poured weapons and sanctions on Russia that impacted the world negatively.

Now it is a new Trump "world for peace" to achieve.  Just a thought.

The Washington Post reports that employees from DOGE, which will be headed by Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, are already beginning to interview federal employees as part of their plan to decrease the size of the federal government. DOGE has interviewed workers at the Treasury Department, the Internal Revenue Service, and the departments of Homeland Security, Veterans Affairs, and Health and Human Services.

Musk and Ramaswamy already have 50 employees working out of the Washington, D.C., offices of Musk’s rocket company, SpaceX, according to the Post, with plans to have 100 people in place by January 20, when Trump is sworn in as president.
