Modifiable..

According to an influential report, published in The Lancet in 2020, 40 per cent of dementia cases can be attributed to 12 modifiable risk factors.

These include high blood pressure, obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and infrequent social contact.
This means that, by adopting positive lifestyle habits, we could theoretically prevent about 40 per cent of dementias, according to the report.
While there is no guarantee of warding off cognitive decline, people can greatly reduce their risk of dementia by increasing their physical activity levels, ensuring they are mentally active and increasing social contact, while avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption.

Lutein..

Alzheimer’s Disease risk is linked to many factors—genetics, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, sleep health, and social health. Along with the aforementioned factors, one other should not be ignored—diet.

The new study, out of Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, looked at how certain aspects of diet interacted with the brain health of people with Alzheimer's. The research team found that carotenoids—a micronutrient in the brain—were found in lower amounts among those with an Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis compared to those without the disease.

“Carotenoids can help minimize the damage caused by normal brain metabolism, and a diet rich in lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene (as well as an overall healthy diet) may help keep our brain fit and functioning well.

Examples of carotenoids evaluated in this study include beta-carotene (found in carrots, cantaloupe, spinach, and sweet potatoes) and lutein (found in egg yolks, watercress, and pistachios).  Just a thought.

“Today, I’m authorizing additional strong sanctions, and new limitations on what can be exported to Russia,” Biden said. “This is going to impose a severe cost on the Russian economy both immediately and over time.”

Despite repeated assurances from President Biden and other Western leaders that “the toughest economic sanctions in history” would cripple Russia’s economy and starve its war machine, that hasn’t happened.

Russia’s current account, which measures global trade in goods and services, was strong in the second quarter of this year when its trade surplus rose to a record $70.1 billion.

The ruble, too, has exhibited remarkable resiliency, ranking as the strongest performing currency so far this year, rising to its highest level against the euro since 2015 and making major gains against the dollar.

Who is providing advice to this president? And who is doing a follow up?

Out..

Three Republican members of the U.S. Congress made a quick trip Sunday into opposition-held northwest Syria in the first known visit to the war-torn country by American lawmakers in six years. They urged the Biden administration and regional partners to keep up the pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The roughly one-hour stop was a signal of the significant support on Capitol Hill for the opposition in Syria's long civil war.
U.S. Rep. French Hill of Arkansas, one of the three lawmakers, told The Associated Press by telephone after leaving Syria that the trip was the latest of his several to the region this summer to press the U.S. government and Arab allies to continue pushing for a political resolution to the war.
How about solving problems at home like south borders migrants, Inflation, prices of gasoline, Country's debt of trillion dollars,  etc.. and let us get out of the business of war, killing our own and others...

Sanctions..

Sanctions against Syria are a series of economic sanctions and restrictions imposed by the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, mainly as a result of the repression of civilians in the Syrian civil war from 2011 onwards.

Due to U.S sanctions banning the export, sale or supply of goods, software, technology and services to Syria, people in Syria are barred from accessing Western online platforms used for education, online shopping, work or leisure, such as Google, Netflix, Amazon (company), Zoom (software), Apple Inc.

On 22 September 2014, the United States intervened in the Syrian civil war to fight the Islamic State as part of Operation Inherent Resolve in the international war against the Islamic State. The U.S. supported the Syrian rebels and the Syrian Democratic Forces against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

Collective responsibility in the form of collective punishment is often used as a disciplinary measure in closed institutions, e.g. boarding schools (punishing a whole class for the actions of one known or unknown pupil), military units, prisons (juvenile and adult), psychiatric facilities,

Twilight..

With Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates joining BRICS, the multilateral mechanism now includes major global oil producers and importers. Analysts said that a wider adoption of local currencies for trade among BRICS countries, rather than using the US dollar, seems more natural.

Six candidates - Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - will be admitted as BRICS members on January 1, 2024, South African president announced on Thursday at the BRICS summit. Currently, BRICS members include Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Having oil producers and consumers as members will set a foundation for BRICS members to use local currencies in settlement, which can definitely reduce transaction costs, adding that people are witnessing the twilight of the petrodollar.

This is OPIC Plus Currency. Just a thought.

San Antonio-area bars pay tribute to 13 fallen US soldiers in Afghanistan

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced Saturday that he ordered the flags at the U.S. Capitol to be put at half-staff in honor of 13 American service members who died in Afghanistan during attempting to help allies flee the country during the U.S.’s exit two years ago.

“Two years ago today, we tragically lost 13 brave servicemen and women in Afghanistan,” McCarthy’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, read. “I have directed the flags at the U.S. Capitol to be lowered to half-staff in honor of these American heroes.”
Is there classified or unclassified documents to explain our desire to modernize Afghanistan, and the cost/Price associated with it?
