Fake Outrage..
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has urged the public to avoid extreme political labels, refusing to call opponents “Nazis” or compare them to Hitler. Fetterman has sought to position himself as an independent voice, repeatedly criticizing colleagues for heated rhetoric.
Fetterman said, “Otherwise, we continue to cheapen our language and use those kinds of terms.”
Fetterman also questioned Congress’s handling of the latest government shutdown and urged party leaders to take greater accountability.
Fetterman stressed reducing political tension and refuses to equate opponents with historical totalitarian figures.
High Intake..
A high intake of animal protein, particularly from red and processed meats, is linked to an increased risk of cancer. This is because animal protein can promote the production of growth hormones like IGF-1, which can stimulate both healthy and cancerous cells.
The effect is more pronounced in middle age, while a moderate intake may be beneficial for older adults, notes Scientific American.
Growth hormones: Animal protein intake can increase levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), a hormone that promotes cell growth and can stimulate tumors.
- Specific proteins: A diet high in protein during middle age is linked to a four-fold increase in cancer mortality risk, similar to the risk of smoking, according to Scientific American.
- High intake of red and processed meats is associated with a higher risk of colorectal cancer. Dairy protein intake may also increase the risk of prostate cancer, notes NIH.
- Age matters: The risk from high animal protein intake appears to be most significant during middle age. For those over 65, a moderate protein intake may be beneficial for preventing frailty.
- Total intake is key: Maintaining a balance is crucial. The goal is to have adequate, but not excessive, protein intake from all sources.
- Plant protein is beneficial: Plant-based protein is generally linked to better health outcomes and lower mortality risk.
- Other factors, such as genetics and the overall composition of the diet, play a significant role in cancer risk. Just a thought.
Justice..
President Donald Trump and co-defendants have had a Georgia racketeering case dropped after Peter Skandalakis, the executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, moved to discontinue it. Skandalakis said the decision was made to “serve the interests of justice,” noting the case will not proceed in Fulton County.
The dismissal effectively shuts down the only remaining state-level prosecution tied to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
With Judge McAfee dismissing the case outright, Georgia’s role in the post-election legal battles comes to an end.
Skandalakis noted that pursuing the case would take years, and separating Trump from other defendants would be impractical and costly.
Skandalakis wrote, “In my professional judgment, the citizens of Georgia are not served by pursuing this case in full for another five to ten years.”

Corrupt..
Seventy New York City Housing Authority employees have been convicted of bribery, fraud or extortion after what federal prosecutors called the largest single-day corruption sweep in the Department of Justice's history.
The convictions come after all 70 were arrested and charged in February 2024 with accepting cash bribes in exchange for awarding NYCHA repair contracts, bypassing the agency’s competitive bidding process.
According to federal prosecutors, 56 of the defendants pleaded guilty to felony charges, 11 pleaded guilty to misdemeanors and three were convicted at trial. Collectively, they accepted more than $2.1 million in bribes in exchange for steering over $15 million in contracts.
part of the plea agreements or verdicts, the workers have been ordered to pay more than $2.1 million in restitution to NYCHA and forfeit an additional $2 million in criminal proceeds, authorities said.
The scheme affected nearly a third of NYCHA’s 335 developments across the five boroughs, according to Jocelyn E. Strauber, commissioner of the city’s Department of Investigation.
“Today’s guilty plea is the latest step in exposing a scheme that exploited NYCHA’s operations, shortchanged its communities, and siphoned trust and resources from NYCHA residents.
Corruption..
As Russia’s renewed attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure cause rolling blackouts ahead of winter, a major embezzlement and kickbacks scandal involving the state-owned nuclear power company has put top officials under scrutiny.
It’s fast becoming one of the most significant government crises since Moscow’s full-scale invasion, with media reports implicating a close associate of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Responding to a public backlash, Zelenskyy called for the dismissal of his justice and energy ministers amid the investigation. They later submitted their resignations, the prime minister said.
Anti-corruption watchdogs, the same agencies Zelenskyy sought to weaken earlier this year, revealed the findings of a 15-month investigation, including 1,000 hours of wiretaps, resulting in the detention of five people, and another seven linked to about $100 million in kickbacks in the energy sector.
The country has been plagued by corruption since gaining independence, and Zelenskyy was elected on a mandate to eliminate graft. Military procurement scandals led to the ouster of Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov in 2023.

Hours after prosecutors announced on Nov. 19 that Cherfilus-McCormick had been indicted on charges of stealing $5 million federal disaster aid and sending some of it to her election campaign, Rep. Board..
neighborhood showdowns of the year on Wednesday, as residents and board members sharply criticized the city’s plan to demolish the Bloomingdale Library and replace it with a massive mixed-use development containing roughly 850 apartments.
The proposal — led by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and supported by the New York Public Library — is moving toward an expected Request for Proposals (RFP) release within the next 45 days. But last night made clear that the community’s patience has reached a breaking point.
Residents unleashed some of the strongest pushback heard since the project was announced earlier this year.
Comment:
This new suggestion will run down the neighborhood and overall, the city.

Deeply..
- "I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein," Summers said.
- Summers is a board member of OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company, and is a former president of Harvard University.
New details of Summers’ relationship with Epstein emerged last week when a House committee released emails showing years of personal correspondence between the two men, including Summers making sexist comments and seeking Epstein’s romantic advice.

Golden Toilet...
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has close ties to individuals named in a sprawling “golden toilet” scam that saw tens of millions of dollars siphoned from wartime energy programs, according to reports.
At least two people with ties to Zelensky were named in the investigation from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, which was unveiled Monday and alleged about $100 million meant to protect power plants from Russian sabotage was actually siphoned by officials beginning in 2022.
Among them was businessman Tymur Mindich, who co-founded the entertainment company Kvartal 95 with Zelensky and was allegedly the ringleader of the scheme.
The two even had apartments in the same building, with Zelensky stopping by Mindich’s for a birthday celebration in 2021.
And it was that apartment – where Mindich was found to have bags of cash, the Financial Times reported –
“Tymur had an apartment with golden toilets that was in the same building as Zelensky’s,” a former Ukrainian government official told Fox News.
Cohesion..
The social democrat Mette Frederiksen won Denmark’s 2019 elections on a platform of radical reforms to reach climate targets, lowering the pension age for manual workers – and stricter migration policies.
Denmark has some of the strictest asylum legislation in Europe. The country grants only temporary asylum to refugees, regardless of their need for protection. It has tightened laws on family reunion, and introduced policies focused on prioritizing deportation, rather than integration.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has justified such policies by pitting the challenges of immigration against the affordability of public services and the welfare state.
In her own words, migration “is challenging Europe, affecting people’s lives, and the cohesion of our societies”.
Now, Frederiksen’s approach has become a model for other left-wing governments in Europe, including the UK, struggling to address voter concerns about immigration.

Assylum..
ASYLUM seekers who illegally arrive in Britain will be forced to wait 20 years before they can apply for permanent residence, in a bid to end “golden ticket” asylum, the Home Secretary has vowed.
Shabana Mahmood warned illegal migration is “tearing our country apart” amid plans for the biggest overhaul since World War 2, which has divided opinion within her own party.
She argued many of those given limited asylum have ended up staying in Britain their whole lives – with the plan to review refugee status every 30 months.
The Government is due to announce its new specific refugee settlement route later this week – inspired by the Danish system, which has seen a 40-year low in asylum applications, with 95 percent of applicants rejected.
