Lawlessness..

The White House and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) have come out against reports that the International Criminal Court is considering issuing arrest warrants for top Israeli officials, a rare moment of unity between both sides.

Johnson called on President Joe Biden to compel the ICC to stand down from reported plans to issue a warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, pressing the president to use “every available tool to prevent such an abomination.”

“Such a lawless action by the ICC would directly undermine U.S. national security interests,” Johnson said in a statement on Monday. “If unchallenged by the Biden administration, the ICC could create and assume unprecedented power to issue arrest warrants against American political leaders, American diplomats, and American military personnel, thereby endangering our country's sovereign authority.”

Warrants..

Israeli government officials believe that the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague is preparing warrants for senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , according to reports from The New York Times Wall Street Journal , and Times of Israel .

The New York Times released a report on Sunday citing five Israeli and foreign officials who speculated that the ICC could officially accuse Israel of preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza and conducting an “excessively harsh” military response to the October 7 terror attack by Hamas.

Previously, Netanyahu has stated that any legal decision by the ICC would not affect the Israeli government’s actions.

Hauge..

Nicaragua had accused Germany of breaching the UN genocide convention by sending military hardware to Israel and ceasing funding of the UN's aid agency.

The allegations build on a separate case taken by South Africa in January, where judges in the Hague ordered Israel to take "every possible measure" to avoid genocidal acts.

More than 33,000 have been killed in Israel's offensive in Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry there says, the majority of them civilians. Gaza is on the brink of famine, with Oxfam reporting that 300,000 people trapped in the north have lived since January on an average of 245 calories a day.

Nicaragua says Germany's arms sales to Israel, which totalled $326.5m last year - a tenfold increase on 2022 - make it complicit in Israel's alleged war crimes. The Central American country had brought the case to the Hague to ask judges to issue emergency measures to stop Berlin from providing Israel with weapons and other assistance.

Safe passage..

Houthis have launched a lot of deadly threats into the Red Sea, many of which have been shot down by US and allied warships operating in the region's dangerous waters.
One recent interception, however, was credited to a French helicopter crew, which blasted a Houthi attack drone out of the sky in air-to-air combat. Helicopter-versus-drone fights aren't the norm in this conflict.
Victories like these can be more difficult to achieve, given that they require hitting a moving target from another moving target in the air, but they aren't all that surprising.

Warren..

Sen. Elizabeth Warren believes international officials could find that Israel’s assault on Gaza legally constitutes a genocide, she said during an event at a local mosque last week.

If you want to do it as an application of law, I believe that they’ll find that it is genocide, and they have ample evidence to do so,” Warren (D-Mass.) said Friday while taking audience questions during an event at the Islamic Center of Boston in Wayland, Massachusetts.

A video of Warren’s comments posted on X by a GBH News reporter began circulating Monday. Warren’s office confirmed the senator's remarks to POLITICO.

Israel did what it did. How the world see Israel today ? And what the world considers the legality of the action of Israel against the civilian Palestinians?

*Israel agrees that its army should be held to account, and the IDF lost no time in launching an inquiry, with two soldiers already sacked. “ the strike was not carried out with the intention of harming the WCK and workers,”
*German Chancellor Olaf Scholz questioned the "terribly high costs" of Israel's offensive on Palestinian Islamist group Hamas in Gaza on Sunday, saying the world could not simply stand by and watch as Palestinians risk starvation in the enclave.

*Scholz said he had shared his concerns about the high number of civilian casualties and insufficient aid reaching Gaza where aid agencies say famine is looming.
*After more than a month of the Israeli government's unlawful blockade of Gaza, which has included catastrophic cuts to water, fuel, and electricity, as well as very limited deliveries of food, water, and medical supplies, the lack of clean water is resulting in “grave concerns” by public health experts of an imminent.  Just a thought.

Detriment..

New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced support on Tuesday for changes to sanctuary city laws that currently protect migrants in New York.

Calling the policies a "detriment to public safety," Adams spoke during a news conference following similar statements he made on Monday, saying he believes New York City agencies should be free to cooperate more readily with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport immigrants who have been accused of committing crimes.

“We should be communicating with ICE, and if ICE makes the determination of deporting, then they should,” Adams, a former New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer, said at the news conference, according to AP.

Democrats who plan to cast blank ballots instead of voting for Joe Biden say it doesn’t mean they want Donald Trump to win.

“We think the main enemy of Democrats this year is the lack of enthusiasm,” said Ana María Archila, co-director of the New York Working Families Party, in an interview. “And in order to address that, we need to remind people that their votes really matter.”

The Leave It Blank movement New York’s iteration of the Uncommitted movement in Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere protesting Biden over the Israel-Hamas war will be put to the test in Tuesday’s primary in the state.

The World Central Kitchen has described the seven aid workers who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza as the “very best of humanity”.

Three British nationals, an Australian, a Polish national, an American-Canadian dual citizen and a Palestinian were killed when their convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse on Monday.

Very best of humanity’: the seven aid workers killed in Israeli airstrike

President Joe Biden sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, days after an Israeli airstrike killed seven humanitarian aid workers from Chef Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen. Biden remarked that he was “outraged and heartbroken,” a feeling shared by the hundreds of nonprofit groups and human rights organizations.

Humanitarian organizations around the world are now quietly hoping that Biden’s outrage might lead to a real moment of reckoning about the terrible humanitarian cost of Israel’s war.

More than 30,000 Palestinians have died since the beginning of the war, 70 percent of them women and children. Gaza is now the deadliest conflict of the 21st Century, with a truly international death toll.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) military strikes have claimed the lives of foreign journalists, photographers, medical staff, religious figures, academics, humanitarian aid workers, Israeli troops and even the Israeli hostages they intended to save. The Committee to Protect Journalists counts nearly 100 reporters and media workers among the dead.
