Loneliness..

 


Loneliness is a distressing, subjective feeling of disconnection or lack of meaningful social companionship, identified as a global public health epidemic. It poses significant physical and mental health risks, including increased risks of heart disease, depression, dementia, and premature death, with a danger comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes daily.
  • Health Impacts
    • Physical: Increased susceptibility to diseases like type 2 diabetes and stroke, as well as a weakened immune system.
    • Mental: Associated with anxiety, depression, dementia, and higher rates of suicidality.
    • Left untended, chronic loneliness is a significant public health issue linked to:
    • Mental Health: Increased risk of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation.  
    • Physical Health: Higher rates of cardiovascular disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and weakened immune systems.  
    • Brain Health: Accelerated cognitive decline and a nearly doubled risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
