Democrats are banking on backlash to Republicans’ Medicaid cuts to boost them in next year's midterms. There's just one problem: The cuts haven't happened yet.

Republicans delayed work requirements until 2027 and financing changes until 2028. They also frontloaded their One Big Beautiful Bill Act with tax breaks that voters are likely to see sooner.

“If we say ‘they took it from you,’ but it hasn’t happened yet, it just complicates it,” said California-based Democratic strategist Doug Herman.

That’s leaving some Democrats concerned that their Medicaid-focused messaging might not hit home before November 2026 and blunt their efforts to use the backlash to President Donald Trump’s signature legislative achievement to fuel a Democratic wave next year.

But Democrats are still forging ahead with making Republicans’ Medicaid reductions a central theme of their midterms messaging.

As Zohran Mamdani mulls staffing up as New York City mayor, the Democratic nominee has an obvious starting point: people from the administration of former Mayor Bill de Blasio, who swept into City Hall a decade ago with a singular focus on economic inequality are interested.

There's a lot of people from my administration who'd be excited to work for him if he was mayor,” de Blasio told POLITICO. “We credentialed a whole generation of progressives to be ready to serve in senior positions in city government. So, I do think he's got a pretty deep bench to draw on.”

Mamdani if succeeds, the assemblymember's challenge of filling top positions will be made even more daunting by the fact that the 33-year-old with no direct city government experience has only managed a staff of five before the campaign and lacks the rolodex — or iPhone contacts — of many of his predecessors.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) contended that the Democratic Party ought to take notes from the campaign of mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, suggesting a key aspect of his campaign could be the strategy to win back voters.

Mamdani, a socialist who won the Democratic Party’s primary in the 2025 New York City mayoral election, has dodged condemning the phrase “globalize the intifada” or threats to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 

When Khanna was asked if Mamdani’s issues are welcome in the Democratic Party, the lawmaker argued Mamdani won his primary due to his “laser-focus on affordability.”

Comment:

 Promising to freeze the rent will end up with less investment, less opportunities, less repair, and less improvement, etc...

Border Czar Tom Homan made it clear that the Trump administration will follow through with its plan with or without Mamdani’s cooperation.

“We’re going to be in New York City,” Homan told the press. “And President Trump said it two weeks ago. We’re going to double down, triple down, in sanctuary cities. Why? Not because they’re a blue city or blue state, because we know that’s where the problem is. 

We know they’re releasing public safety threats and national security threats to the streets every day because they don’t honor our detainers. We know that. 

We don’t have that problem like in Florida, where every sheriff in the state’s working with us. So where are we gonna send our assets? We’re gonna send them where the problem is sanctuary cities.”

A recent CBS News/YouGov poll has thrown the Democratic Party into turmoil, revealing a significant disconnect between leaders and voters. With the 2026 midterms looming, the findings serve as a wake-up call for a party grappling with its identity and effectiveness.

The survey, conducted in June among 2,428 adults, indicates that a staggering 71 percent of voters believe the Democratic Party has been ineffective in standing up to Trump. This sentiment resonates even more broadly, with an alarming 78 percent of Americans expressing similar dissatisfaction. 

The implications of these statistics cannot be overstated: They highlight a crisis of confidence within the party that has failed to recapture the enthusiasm of its base since the 2024 election debacle, which saw Democrats cede ground to Republicans in almost all states except for two. 

Hell No .

Rep. LaMonica McIver was indicted on federal charges by the U.S. Justice Department for her alleged actions outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility.

According to an indictment, tensions escalated after a Department of Homeland Security special agent informed Mayor Baraka that he was not authorized to enter a secured area. 

Prosecutors allege that McIver intervened to prevent the arrest, first shouting “Hell no!” and then physically obstructing the officer. She is accused of using her forearm to strike one officer and attempting to restrain him during a second arrest attempt. She also allegedly pushed past an ICE deportation officer, striking him with her forearms. 

A press release from the New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s Office alleged, “During her continued attempts to thwart the arrest, McIver slammed her forearm into the body of one law enforcement officer and also reached out and tried to restrain that officer by forcibly grabbing him. McIver also used each of her forearms to forcibly strike a second officer.”

The 33-year-old assembly member, a Muslim democratic socialist, defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo by 56% to 44% in the final round of ranked choice voting, marking a watershed moment for the Democratic establishment. 

Within hours of his win however, Mamdani became the target of coordinated online attacks that framed his faith, ideology, and heritage as threats to public life, according to the Center for the Study of Organized Hate (CSOH).

What comes next is a heated general election campaign, with the 33-year-old assembly member positioned to become the first Muslim mayor of New York City. The primary race was marked by offline Islamophobic rhetoric—most prominently from Cuomo’s camp, which included flyers with Mamdani’s beard lengthened and darkened. Mamdani condemned them as playing on "racist tropes.

Comment:

Regardless of his religion, Mamdani's socialist policies that he uttered are scary, and what is extra scary is what he didn't say yet..  Just a thought.

Jane Eugene, the lead singer of the chart-topping1980sBritish R&B group Loose Ends, is currently facing deportation proceedings after being detained by U.S. immigration authorities for overstaying her visa by more than two decades.

The 62-year-old performer was arrested two months ago by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents after attempting to cross into Canada at the Niagara Falls border.
